I've got the same set up as you (US XBox, original US Live account) and renewed it with a PAL Live account fine.

Also, the demos worked fine on my unchipped machine, so the discs must be region free. However, mine was one of the older discs with Moto GP and Mech Assault, not RS3.

microsoft DOES say you can use the starter pack's sub code. its a starter pack in that it contains everything you need to get going.

the xbox live website says so. just in case M$ gets angry emails from ppl who paid ?39.99 when they coulda spent less (i.e. amazon)

So am i right in thinking that once my 12 months is up instead of then paying for another subscription i can cancel the one i have,buy a new LIVE kit and start a new sub,which will also enable me to change my Gamertag?

Nope. All you have to do is buy another starter pack and use the subscription code to update yr original acc and thus keep yr gametag.

Apparently it doesn't come with the live demo disc, so unless you have other live games sitting around you'll only be playing SC:PT to start with.

yes. buy a live kit from amazon and enter the code.

you could also try putting in two codes from two Live kits, and getting 24 months worth of Liveness. i don't see why that wouldn't work*.

Well that's your problem for not being arsed to buy a starter kit. Buy the one from Amazon with Splinter Cell, free game in the pack too, as well as another headset. Less than ?30 delivered, bargain.

It does actually, the only thing different about it is that there is a white box on the rear of the case with 'Not for resale' on it, so you'd probably struggle to hand it into GAME. Actually now I think about it, I don't know if it's got a barcode - I'll update tomorrow and say for sure.

EDIT - it does have the barcode - the resale warning is in the same white space as it.
