Does anyone know how it works?
I mean, really how it works. Of course I understand that in whatever game you are playing you select Optimatch and a list of games appear. My question is more about what determines which games appear. Of course it may well be game specific, but I have a few observations that seem to hold true for RS3, PGR2 and SC:PT.
- Optimatch does not give you the full list of available games.
This is clear. For example, in PGR2 if you choose the option to be presented with games with people of any skill level you will get a certain number of games. If you then select "same as me" as the skill level you will get another set of games. Whatever skill level you choose, a roughly different set of games appear. It does not seem to sort by connection, as the number of games with 4, 3, 2 or 1 bar seems about the same each time.
Similarly, in SC:PT if you choose "any map" you may be given 10 games to choose from. Choose "Warehouse" only and you get another 10 games.
My solution: narrow your search options, and you may get a larger number of options (oddly).
- Optimatch seems to want to pair me up with Dutch or Belgium servers
Before I had a decent sized Friend's list I would rely solely on Optimatch, and as a result I swear I thought that everyone on RS6 was Flemish for ages. Never call them French. Instant kickage.
- Optimatch is a dirty liar
"This session is no longer available". Is it now. Then why does it keep appearing in the list whenever I refresh the list. A particular PGR2 problem, that does rather annoy me.
I would understand if the server has filled up in the time between it getting the server info and me trying to join, but often the same "no available" game seems to have 4 (out of a max of 8 ) players in it. Surely I can join?
Anyway, enough Optimatch ranting. Basically, whatever Live game I use I think the Optimatch function is odd. It serves its purpose to a degree, but tend to join games with people I know more that I use it.
