Talizker mate, having you in the PT we have so far would be cool. The one disappointment about the PT last night was that although me and the RNG were able to put together a really nice Distortion, the only person who would Magic Burst off it was the WHM/BLM who could only use Water and the results were obviously not too great (not the fault of Apathye at all though). Your RDM could hopefully Burst Blizzrd and help make the fights even shorter.

As for RSE, I don?t mind helping with that. When I got mine I found it easier to collect keys in advance then when your time comes it?s just a case of hunting the chest. Name which dungeon(s) yo want keys for and I will help you out

I could probably do with some more RSE gear too. I do know that the Hume M gloves +3 to str and dex, making them very desirable to all melee jobs.

Still trying to get thf up to 45, I know its going to take me a few more weeks, but apparently its worth it

Nbk/Wedge are we going to be exping to tonight, i'm up for it.

Yeah, we're up for some exping Tobal we'll be on sometime after 7.

I've been working on my plan to get Sneak, Invis and Warp available to me in subjob-form. I started out by levelling WHM to 8, then I got to work on BLM, which I now have at level 10(and a half). When I get BLM to 17 I'll get to work on RDM, which I intend to use for Sneaking and Invissing. I'll prolly level WHM to 12 (I assume RDM will get more invites with WHM sub).

On other notes, I've started my AF3 quest, next part is to get a Zvahl coffer. And I'm facing the same situation Rare had a while back... once I hit 60 and get full AF I'll have completed one of my major goals in the game, and, at the moment, I don't know what comes after (besides a long awaited Shadowlord fight) I guess I'll have obtaining a Knightly Mantle and Levelling WAR 30-37 to keep me occupied for a while

Mih, don't forget Shadow Lord, Zilzart and CoP mission's, and BcNM to get gil

Talizker @ Valkurm - What to do in this situation...?

First a little background. With nothing much to do in game last night I decided on a few hours in Valkurm with my BLM17 as it had been a while since I exp'd with it. Got in a party of 5 fairly readily (levels 15-16) which consisted of 2 WAR and 2 THF (including a Rank 9, other jobs a RDM7x). A WHM was finally found (WHM18/BLM5) and we got ready to head to camp. As the WHM heaed to Selbina he had a Gob Leecher in tow so we set about and killed it (quite a tough fight). As some of us healed, others decided to head off east of the outpost (and in the opposite direction to the agreed camp) - More Leecher agro, this time without fully healed people two died before a high level stepped in to help. After raise's and resting at the outpost we finally set off to camp (against north cliff, west of outpost) to fight Gobs. As we arrived another Leecher was pulled right away before any buffs had been done. Again it was a tough battle (we were maybe not ready for these gobs) and things started to go badly. I was down to <60 MP and the WHM had been getting lots of agro...

In the heat of the battle I missed his call for healing help and the next thing I knew he was dead. A couple of the other players were in bad shape but the gob was heading toward death so I fired off Elemental Seal + Blizzard and then Water (no MP for another Blizzard) which with a little Melee help killed the gob. Unfortunately another two of our party fell. The WHM was not overly happy and made himself clear before dispanding along with a couple of others (they said "too much anger in party!")...

Now I know I should have been more aware of the WMH's MP/HP situation for backup healing - I always am as RDM so my bad - but... In the situation we were in (ie WHM with low HP and loads of agro) and me with only enough MP for a couple of nukes. Should I have moved to fire off some cures or was I right to fire of a couple of nukes for the 60+ damage which ultimately killed mob?

I tried /tell'ing the WHM after to explain the situation but he wouldn't answer.

I don't like pi**ing people off in game for any reason and have been going over whether it was my bad call or not.

well that's a tricky one, and the fact that it's now 7.30pm and no-one has replied to you yet probably reflects that!
I would say that a BLM's Primary job is to nuke, and a WHM's Primary job is too keep the party alive.
Let's ignore the WHM's shout for healing help for a moment and just think about should a BLM switch to healing if the WHM dies..
Chances are that with WHM as your subjob you would only be able to cast Cure I anyway and so the outcome might have been the same had you switched, whereas your Damage spells are powerful and may have killed the mob quick.
As the only one with Healing Magic does keeping the party alive become your responsibility even if the Healing power you have is negligable? Your equipment would be geared towards INT after all and maybe even -MND.

I would place the blame firmly on the shoulders of the puller. Who should have waited until the party was ready, buffed up and pulled something a little more managable (at least to start with)

More info on the MND/INT thing (from Allakhazam):

                  Back on topic, to reiterate:

White magic spells use MND, Black magic spells use INT

                  The White enfeebles are:
                  Dia, Slow, Paralyze, Silence

                  The Black enfeebles are:
                  Bio, Gravity, Blind, Bind, Sleep
The Elemental Debuffs (Shock, Rasp, Choke, Frost, Burn, Drown) (But they use Elemental skill, not Enfeebling)

                  Edit: Forgot Bind and Sleep

Obviously still not 100% sure that this is right but it does seem to be the general opionion there...

Again, had a blast last night. I hope we can team up up and do Gazers in Eldieme Necropolis another night this week. I think I originally said Thursday but I've realised that can't happen >.<

Was just a shame that Ghasts were a little too tough for us as we could have chained Ironshells all day with that PT and pulled in massive EXP.

Oh, and a little something Ces has been working on for everyone.

Apologies for anyone who was missed out but we tried to get everyone on who we could think of. Took a few liberties here and there with the equipment (Poochyena is decked out far more impressively than a 25MNK should be).

Oh and Talizker I meant to respond last night when you mentioned doing RSE but I was mid-pull. I can help you with this any time

LOL, that's Brilliant. Turn into a wallpaper and i'll proudly plaster it across my workspace. One day we'll have to do a real one

Anyway im Still really, really pissed off with my self for that Deggi hunt last night, 1st time i missed out completely to the dragoon crew and Fecer, but the 2nd spawn Aggaaaaaahhh, it was just me and Jap Sam called Shady, i got ahead by 4-5 yards used my provoke macro and it screwed me over my target the Meat maggot that just appeared on the screen to my right getting that instead, i tried to range Deggi but Shady cuaght up and provoked, Aggghhhh!!! Anyway it's given me hope with my new tactic of Keep moving, so i gonna try for at least one spawn tonight before we get together for the 'main exp static party' or on couple spawns on thursday.

I think I'm going to leave the black mage and concentrate on taking summoner all the way... this wasn't my original plan, particularly as it means 40-50 levels of summoner without the ability to use Fenrir, but I've just had it with the blm job.

Main reason - assholes with guidebooks and websites telling me what I should be casting. 3 parties in a row, I've been instructed to use level I elemental spells just to satisfy somebodies ideas of getting at a monsters weak point - when, even factoring in the occasional resistance, the level II spells do a lot more damage.

The clincher was in Garlaige, being told to use Aero on siege bats. I used it, it did 20 damage, I went back to Water II and Stone II for around 120 damage. This mofo ninja kept on at me about how these bats were lightning, so I should be using Aero (wtf???). I eventually said I wasn't going to waste my time casting my weakest spells, and left the party.

Straight away I get the tell "Let's see... you're level 32, rank 4... this is my freaking subjob". Given his absent knowledge of elemental magic, wouldn't be a surprise if he bought that character!

Anyway, 5 or 6 hours later - I log on in the evening and get a random tell from the same guy saying "sorry, full." Can anyone explain that? I put it down to mental problems!

There are way too many backseat mages out there, and it's something that irritates me immensely. Conversely I've been having a lot of fun with the summoner, have got my technique down so I am killing 4 tough, linking mobs with one astral flow and some orange juice. I've also got a good combo going with my pal Claude's perfect dodge, so there's not much we can't bring down with just the two of us

edit - talizker, regarding your own situation with the blm a few days ago, that was the very reason I initally went about getting the smn job - i wanted a suitable sub that wouldn't leave me in the position of being expected to heal (which I do a very poor job of, being focused on damage and all)

OMG that is too much. Firstly he is a NIN and should have some understanding of elemental magic anyway seeing as though they get access to 6 elements via Ninjitsu magic.

I?m sure you know this but the elemental correlation is:

                            Fire>Ice>Wind>Earth>Thunder>Water>Fire

As for bats being Thunder based, I don?t know where he got that from. From what I understand Bats are Wind based and are weak against Ice and Light magic. For him to recommend Aero is wrong on 2 counts. Firstly Aero has no advantage over Thunder anyway so even if they were thunder based, why use that spell? Also he recommended you use a spell that Bats are strong against. What a prick.

It all relates to my post last week about the asshat RDM. Many seem to think that because they have a high level and/or rank (and most likely have that rank due to having their hand held throughout the missions as opposed to actually, y?know taking part and being useful) they have a right to boss around those people who are lower level and/or rank even though they have no first hand experience of the job they are talking about.

I'm very glad you agree Rare (although let's be honest, anyone with half a brain would!)

Unfortunately, at the time, the party leader agreed with him. Probably a friend of his. And, you know, this guys online resources said bats were lightning... I could have started willy-waving my smn job in his face to show I was well versed in the elemental correlations (as if blm wasn't enough) but instead I just left.

Hmmm, interesting, I usually base my opinions of elemental weaknesses on this thread here:

According to that (which hasn't let me down in the past) Bats weakness is Light and Wind (not Ice like I said) so casting Aero would be the correct course of action which is really strange as Bats are wind based.

                                Confusing.

However this isn't the only monster that something similar occurs. Bomb type mobs are fire based yet are strangely weak to fire (and I have witnessed this first hand with my Ninjitsu). I know Bomb are classed as Arcana, and I suspect Bats could be as well, so maybe there is something about Arcana type mobs that makes them weak against their own element.

Also that doesn't get away from the fact that you have seen first hand that Aero (which is supposed to be strong) was weak. However the strengths/weaknesses correlations are only an indication of the liklihood of a mob fully or partially resisting the damage of a black magic spell. A water spell could still theoretically do maximum damage against a mob strong against water and do weak damage against a mob weak against water.
