Far from it in my opinion i saw 2 BST last night taking full advantage of the new updates. I seem to remember SE saying that when i mob despawned after losing agro, it would be the same mob when it repopped? Well these 2 BSTs were using Lizard near the Cockatrice camp in Cape Terrigan. They seem to be taking the incorrect lvl pets out of there normal area releasing and then Rinse+Repear untill they both had a correct pet, they then Triod a Goblin with a Summoner+Carbuncle resting nearby. They were killing at a pretty reasonable rate unfortunately i couldnt talk to them much as they were Japanese.

Speaking of the "instant gratification crew", have just been reading and contributing to this thread over on the great Allakhazam! The topic is nothing new; gilsellers and inflation. It did prompt me to actually do some reading though about inflation on Wikipedia, and I've had a couple of new thoughts about it. The thoughts are in the thread. The reason I'm posting here is ...

... wouldn't it be interesting to actually maintain a price index for the server? Then we'd be able to see exactly how high this widely reported inflation is. I'm talking about a list of items that once a month, or even once a week, I log in and check in a Jeuno AH. In real economies these things are measured by identifying key items that play a part in the economy, or (in the case of companies) big players that are a good indication of trends without being too volatile and flightly.

So, without further ado, please let me know which items you think I should regularly check to determine inflation on the server. Remember, they must be relevant to all levels in the game, not just the high end expensive ones. I will check them regularly and post something on the rarghls website, might even do some graphs and stuff.

      I'll kick it off with:
Crystals (could possibly do a separate index just for these!) (12)
      Scorpion Harness (1)
      Yagudo Drink (12?)
      Sole Sushi (12)
      Shihei (99)
      Arrows/bolts (not sure exactly which)

Suggestions include - longstanding reliable food items, perhaps an armour item for either mage or melee at 20, 30, 40 etc, crafting ingredients.

Silent Oil and Prism Powder could be relevant, but economics is an alien concept to me so I'm not sure i understand the question.

One thing that always bothers me is how none of the quest rewards or similar cash sums are ever changed in line with inflation. You can pop a chest and get a valuable item (prices determined by AH) or a pittance in small change (determined by Squeenix). I'm sure disappointment is not what they had in mind when they assigned the value of rewards.

I suppose for a very small number of things it works both ways - surely it costs absolutely nothing in relative terms to buy an airship pass nowadays.

There's a similar idea expressed in a thread here. Basically, pull the prey to the pet rather than the other way around.

They're really good suggestions actually, cheers The idea is just to pick a number of items that when combined will be representative of "the cost of playing on Seraph", across the available jobs and levels.

I would like to try an organise a planned LS event which should include as many members as possible. I regret not being able to spend all my time on Rargh lately and the link to Milkman's LJ inspired me today

              1) I would like to know the CoP status of all current members to help me plan this event.
              2) Also any information about which jobs you would be able to use within a 40 Cap Zone would be appreciated!

              The Plan:
I would like to try and kill/farm the Carmine Dobsonflies in Riverne Site #A01
I have killed these flies before and they are a very difficult and interesting fight, they exist on a seperate island within Riverne A01 and are not linked to the overall CoP story. They have a collective 21-24 hour Repop time and are not very well camped, they are up most of the time which means fighting them shouldnt be a problem

              The Fight:
As i said they are on an seperate island, with a Wyvern and Bomb spawn. To get to this island we will need to farm some Giant scales prior to attempting the NM. Carmine Dobsonflies come as 10 seperate mobs, which will all agro when one is attacked so its 10 or nothing. We need Sleepga which at 40 cap only comes from BLMs, and then the battle plan depends on the jobs present. Either -agas + Astral Flow etc. or Kill one by one, wipe, reraise and repeat.

              The Drops:
Although i dont need them, some of these items are very useful not only in capped areas but also as exp equip. All items are Rare/Ex:

Dobson Bandana [Head] - AGI +3, Evasion +5, Enhances "Resist Poison"
Jaegar Ring [Ring] - Accuracy +4, Ranged Accuracy +4
Voyager Saller [Head] - STR +3, DEX +4

I really hope we can get some numbers together get some people through Promyvions with an aim to killing these NMs a few times in late January!

I'd be up for some of that action, as per usual it would have to PLD and I'm on CoP 3-5. Jaeger Ring and Voyager Sallet are both very nice pieces.

So is thr Dobson Bandana as well looking at it but a bit Ninja like for me ^^

Could use some of those on Chakmool rather than Hicory but Hicory is in a better position to attend the fights and you'll need a healer .... so .... yes, I'm up for those!

What happened about the CoP Promy suggestion for Monday night of this week? Did anyone try a promy? Have got my chocobo quest done on Chakmool now, and my main obstacle to getting 30 MNK is the Kazham airship pass which I'll probably try for in a few more levels. Need money too ... hopefully a BCNM20 on Hicory will sort that out.

Don't forget to send us updates on your profiles (I'll be updating Chakmool's soon to reflect chocobo quest completion) as Tsing now has access to update them as well as me! Also, the more of us who have profiles on the website, the easier it will be for people to arrange things of the nature Bayan is describing!

                      Yes please!

At present it would have to be RDM/BLM or RDM/WHM but by the end of January I should have WHM at Lv40 and possible BLM as well.

I read your AK post but will reply here as AK on the most part is a cesspit lacking any kind of informed discussion and inhabited solely by a bunch of people who care more about a number under their name rather than saying what they truly feel.

As for the money has to come from somewhere point, you are completely correct. Sources of money in this game are limited and for the most part are quite small rewards. I accidently handed in my Frost Whisper thingie for beating the Shiva the other day and took the gil option as I didn?t want Rare/EX items (lack of storage) or the pact (I?d rather obtain them via the challenge of the solo battle when my SMN is 20). Choosing gil gifted me with 10k, which is one of the highest gil rewards I?ve seen outside of gaining a new country rank, but in actual real terms is a pittance.

The way prices are at the moment was probably always going to happen at some point, the problem is the speed with which it has occurred and the blame can be directly attributed to a phenomenon last year.

                          Rusty Fishing.

I?m not sure the exact date when you started playing but Rabao was something of a joke in mid 2004. People would level there Smithing skills up to around 35, then fish up Rusty Caps which could then be synthed via a Light Crystal into a Padded Cap which could be sold to an NPC for a tidy sum. People could literally leave this process over night via a bot and make millions of gil in a short time frame (we had a LS member who used just this technique).

This was before even the concept of RMT was a massive problem (I remember the very first incidents of suspicious groups of people occurring around April 2004). The thing with rusty fishing is that it actually created new gil rather than simply shifting it around. In the space of a week, literally millions upon millions of new gil was entering the market. Inflation was a given with this. I had been playing for about 7-8 months by this point and before this prices were nowhere near as volatile as they have been since. Sure there high valued items that required time and effort to obtain but on the whole prices were stable. For sure, the notion of saving a week for a piece of equipment only to find the price has gone up 25% from when you started was unheard of, but doesn?t surprise anyone these days.

Now this doesn?t relate to gilsellers yet, so perhaps they aren?t a problem. The problem with gilsellers is that they undertake activities that eventually sees that gil getting to them to sell. Camping/farming almost 24/7 to get the things we want and pay for.

Now comes where I see the problem is:

Take 2 individuals. Let?s call them Farmer A and Gilbuyer B. Both A & B are level 60 WAR. They have attained all that lovely WAR AF but they are not quite happy. The AF was designed when the game was less than a year old and WAR was a tank in those days. However, things have progressed and the concept of WAR tanking is all but dead which makes their AF body piece largely redundant, as WAR is considered solely to be a DD.

But, luckily there is an answer. S-E called it a Haubergeon which is a top class piece of equipment for a melee damage dealer.

A spends an entire month of game time making money to purchase his Haubergeon and eventually has enough gil to match up with the price history. He goes to the AH and sees there is one for sale. He puts in his bid but he can?t get it. It seems the seller wants more for it. A is slightly upset but decides to wait it out. If this one doesn?t sell and another gets listed the price may stay stable.

But, B has decided to purchase gil to get his Haubergeon. He steps up to the AH, tries to match the price history but he fails to buy. Luckily it was only another $5 to get another 1m gil and he bought some spare. He hasn?t toiled and worked hard for this gil so what does another 500000 matter. He puts in his higher bid and gets his Haubergeon.

This is how gilsellers can impact the server negatively. The fact that they are not creating new money is irrelevant as they can do damage in other ways. They artificially move money around the economy. Maybe it?s just me but I have a strong attachment to the gil I make as I work hard for it and want to get the most out of it that I can. Does someone who simply had that gil magically appear in their delivery box one morning have those same values?

Also, you mentioned Christmas will see a price drop by basing it on what happened last year but you the comparison is flawed. Christmas last year was also preceded by an update which changed 2 things which caused panic by a percentage of the playerbase. NM behaviour (spawn locations etc) were altered, supposedly making the claim process fairer and a number of similar items (not identicial) were added to try and take the pressure off some of the most highly desired items. Also, the auction house tax system was changed making it cost more to list high priced items and potentially making it more risky to increase prices.

What this led to was panic from a lot of people as many tried to sell off their valued Sniper Rings, O.Kote etc before the expected price plummet occurred.

There has been no such implementation this Christmas so I don?t think any price reductions will be present this year.

                            I'm on 2-3 (Distant Beliefs I think it's called).

Don't think I have Riverne access.

I think I might be thinking of Richard Dawson out of Total Recall.

I'm all for a group LS activity and this sounds good but wouldn't it be more practical to arrange one that we can all definitely participate in? Like Garrison for example? I've always been itching to do one of those.
