For the 360 version, if i'm a returning beta player, can I use the beta dvd and buy the content online, or will I have to buy the retail dvd and re-install that?

Ackhhhh!
Had no problems at all with the install... till I tried to purchase content ID. It kept giving me error messages, so I checked my POL mail and apparently I've purchased two content ID's, have been charged for them, but when I try to play, it tells me I have no content ID's... wtf???
God knows what my debit card is getting charged after all this crap
Ta for the worldpass though, if there's any room left by the time I get this pish sorted.

Anyone on Alexander? Probably be the server I have to stick to to continue playing with my bro, as much as I'd like to play with you guys on Seraph.
Been playing the game today with my bro, me on the 360 him on my PC, both screens side by side.
360 version is a tad disappointing really. Runs and looks far nicer on my PC, when the 360 is much more powerful (my PC being an AXP2600+ Barton, 1GB DDR400, 9800 Pro 128MB). Does seem more detailed than the beta though, and there are times when the lighting seems more colourful on the 360.
360 version does have 3 things I use - Proper 16:9 support, 5.1 DD sound and ability to use the 360 dashboard stuff like voice chat and Mp3 player. This alone puts the 360 game above the PC one for me. Means I can still play Mp3's when my PC is being used by my bro, too.

I have got the PC version running on maximum 'official' settings (there are registry edits which can improve things) and I found the colours on 360 to be a lot bolder. The draw distance does seem to be improved too.
However, I think the PC one looks just that bit sharper.
PC is played via DVI whilst 360 is VGA.

Can anyone please give me the lowdown on how it plays? Is it like a normal FF game but online? Is it possible to play it offline like Phantasy Star Online and Level your character up, hence not pay any monthly fees???
Thanks!
It's an MMORPG, and it plays like one, although whereas I find MMORPG's the most boring genre around, I took quite well to FFXI. You'll love it or hate it, and it requires more work that you get back from it, tbh.
Online only I'm afraid.
I loved PSO to bits, and I can see myself migrating to PSU when it comes out. That's not to say FFXI isn't worth a shot, but it really it the most far removed FF game.

Can I just use the POL user and pass I used on the xbox, and carry on using my character with just Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia?
assuming your fully registered on a retail copy of FF on 360 then you can play on whatever client and platform you wish now. You just wont be able to explore the newest content till you install it naturally.

You just use the new 'Data Transfer' option under the ContentID section to transfer your character across, regardless of platform.
It's pretty cool. I own the PC version and the first 2 addon packs, but not the newest one (as I intend to just play on 360). I installed my brothers copy of the ToUA pack, and loaded up my 360 account on the PC. Shock - it works! So if you own the 360 one, you don;t really need to buy the addon packs on the PC. Strangely though, you can only use the account on your gamertag when playing on a 360.Last edited by sj33; 23-04-2006, 18:19.

Amazing how quickly people move on new content... I had a yhoator jungle party for my red mage sub job tonight, there was a 30 blue mage and a 30 corsair in the group. Both had subbed ninja, and to be honest neither seemed very spectacular. Perhaps that's just down to how they were being played - but the corsair was just giving the same enhancements all the time (exp boost/acc boost/mp regain boost) and there didn't appear to be any random element at all.
Haven't been on FFXI much over the weekend due to a stag do... kart racing and strip joints, I feel like I've been through a blender!
