The difficulty I have with capped battles is that my equipment choices are restricted mostly to evasion/tanking. Even lvl70 I lose out on a lot of my DD pieces (Suppanomimi, Warwolf Belt, etc.)

I'm going to have to make a plea for help, might as well get it on the table now... I need to kill a NM for a quest item to complete rank 8. I would shout up a bunch of Windurstians who need it, but it's actually counter-productive to do so because the NM only drops 2 of said item per kill and has a half-hour respawn (exactly the same situation as the key on my previous mission).
It's an Orc black mage in that house in Davoi, through the monastic cavern.. it's always there, it doesn't have to be popped or anything. The problem is it could easily link half the zone when aggroed. That means 2 options, take enough people to handle all the toughest Orcs in Davoi at once, or find a way to train the NM to the zone and let the others despawn.
I'm thinking if I can suss option 2 it would be do-able with 2 or 3 people helping. Sleepga to buy some time maybe with someone to voke the NM off me (as it's unsleepable apparently).. fly in the ointment is you have to come down an elevator to reach the zone. Any volunteers with suggestions?
Following that mission I will at some point need to kill two Queen level Cardians, I will probably be asking for help on those too. After that it's a straight run up to the rank 10 BCNM (finding a team for that is going to be painful).Last edited by Darwock; 17-07-2006, 11:55.

I've never actually been in that house just past it when sorting G3. Can you use Carby to pull the Orc back to either the Monastic Cavern zone or forward to the bridge - both of which should be out of agro range of other Orcs. Of course, the (unknown to me) elevator could be a sticking point here!!!

Hey you know that might actually be an idea!
We could do it like a relay race - Talizker at the half way mark to escape the first puller before death, then someone else could come in and reclaim the NM to take him the rest of the way to the zone.. he would just need to be held there until the folk who escaped could make it back in.

Continueing from the other thread Dar - it's strange that I wasn't on the linkshell list as I was logged in all that time.
Some drunken idiots buzzing on my number woke me up just as I saw your LS chat about me come up. Good timing.
First thing I did was look at my watch, saw it said 11:30 and then thought I was late for work. lol.

Total disaster with the Zinc Oe run, I could have used that money for building Selbina fame instead. Oh well, as soon as all that grain sells I should have 35k x5 - that will easily keep me going up until I'm ready for some BCNM.
Just need to think about armour + scythes for DRK. I may farm a couple more stacks of grain for that job too, unless I can make more than 50k per hour teleporting of course.

The Gusgen Mines trip made up for any previous turmoil. Off to Eldieme Necropolis tonight, as well as Dekkfult's tower.

Also Rare. I do agree that repeatable quests are totally gay - and I do feel very dirty when carrying them out. However, I don't know why but I MUST have those 3 basic tele scrolls now that I'm lvl.36, and after the amount of quests I carried out in Sandy I couldn't stomach any more NPC banter.
I've actually done more than one half of all Sandy quests that aren't AF or adv. job related. A pretty good feeling. I think I'll reserve Saturdays for questing as now that my fame has built somewhat I find I can walk up to more and more NPCs and accept quests... I'm quite the completionist so they will all eventually get done, one day.

Exactly mate...
"You don't have teleport-altep? omfg"
...disband.
Only happened once like. But I suppose when I party in places outside of the usual choco-trekking areas they'll become a must.
I'm up for ENM also... whenever.
I'll be looking at getting the first Promyvion boss out of the way before the end of the week (both jobs 40 by friday) so any help is welcome, unless of course I should be lvl.60 or whatever before even attempting.Last edited by dataDave; 17-07-2006, 15:09.

The off shoot of this was that I treated the game like any previous Final Fantasy and before even stepping foot outside, I stayed in the starting town and spoke to every NPC I could find because, well, that's what you're supposed to do in RPGs. This meant I got lots of quests from the get go and I presumed that's what you supposed to do in amongst the killing, and just completed them as I could (in fact this is how I still do things and often fluke completing some quests like on Saturday morning when helping you). Some memorable moments were trying to get through Ordelle's Cave undetected (without Sneak or Invisible) as I knew there were quests in there (one of which was Eco_warrior which if by some miracle I had got to undetected, would have killed me instantly). The other thing I remember was trying to get through Jugner Forest for cleaning the signs. Managed to find 3 by sticking to the path and was free of aggro then a Forest Tiger detected me and gave chase. I was done for. Looking back on the game then, I do sort of miss those times.
I think the point I'm trying to make is that because I viewed the game as doing lots of things, I never had these problems related to fame at first. When you focus on one aspect (such as leveling) a lot can get neglceted which can be difficult to redress when needed (i.e. raising fame, making gil). I guess it's understandable in your case as you had your first go on the Beta and had to start all over again.
I don't wish to sound preachy and apologise if so, but I do have firsthand experience of the "need to get something now" when I tried desperately to raise fame in Norg so I could quest Utsusemi: Ichi for NIN, so I do know what it's like.
This is part of the reason I try not to help people, especially at low levels but also certain missions (i.e. the Rank 6 battle against
Shadow Lord
). Not because I'm particularly lazy or unhelpful (well maybe just a little) but because I try to get people to have some challenge and actual game in there FFXI life. It's little fun to have someone hold your hand through everything.
Couple of weeks ago an opportunity came up to join a group for CoP mission 4-2. My last attempt at this didn't go too well and this opportunity would have basically been a guaranteed win (with an army of BLM) but I would have little satisfaction from that. What would be the point?Last edited by C'; 17-07-2006, 15:48.

Another slightly fustrating night on the Exp trail. Had just finished up some quest bits in Bastok and I got an invite to replace a RDM in Bhaflau Thickets. In the past I have usually been main healer in parties taking the Colibri mobs due to lack of magic use. With a WHM already in the party I was on pulling/refresh/melee duties which was a little different from the norm and good fun. Thing were going well, high chains, decent Exp, sword skill ups - All Right! Well that lasted about 30 mins before dispand /sigh. No more invites were forthcoming and as it was nearly 12am I went to complete the Blue Mage quest and also finally got myself an Olduum Ring.
