You have to disable the option of extending support to other programs, which sadly can't be switch off on Vista and Win7. Seems abit daft they removed it. Due to it being removed, the plugin doesn't load.

Dual boot XP? Probably still easier than a second FFXI install with the Japanese edition! Apparently FFXI runs "ok" on Ubuntu, but my discs are in the UK so I've not tried it.

Current Issues

An issue where the Ninja job was given 2 new Job Abilities, Yonin and Innin.

The new Samurai and Paladin job Ability Deathstrike does not activate 100% with each swing.

That does raise an interesting issue. By the time this update hits, Wings of the Goddess will be two years old (and still won't be finished). Assuming these are the final sets of nation quests and the final missions come about in the update after this one, we're looking at probably February/March until WotG is complete.

That's quite a staggering time difference. I though Treasures of Aht urghan took a long time to get completed and that was done in 16 months (released in April 2006. Missions completed in August 2007).

Good point but then take in to account the quality and style of WotG story. There's more of it, just in smaller chucks (3 quest lines and the mission line). Plus the dev team have made all kinds of gameplay changes, developed new game systems etc outside the stories.

Back and finally fully setup with new PC. Running FFXI in full speed on 2048x2048 x64 with all graphics features maxed out, running better then i ever did on laptop, looks like a new game.

Anyone up for anything this evening? Floor climbs, BC's, Assaults, Campaign OPs. Anything really.

Floor climbs and BCs work for me - anything I can partake in really (so no assaults unless anyone wants to do rank 1 or 2 ones for whatever reason)

I wouldn't recommend it by this point, you'd accomplish very little before XIV next year and most people will jump ship to that I imagine.

Price to pay is about 8-9 quid I think per month. I've been charged in dollars and that was about 6 a month for the first 4 years or so until the recession killed the pound/dollar exchange rate so now I'm probably paying more than that

Depends how you look at it, FFXIV is prob still a ways off, the Beta may be appearing at the end of the year. It all depends on how much time you can devote to XI at the moment. If you only have a couple of hours a night to play, your not going to acomplish much.

These days i imagine it's quite difficult to get by without a level 75 job (Max level until the system changes), which is going to take awhile if you don't have much time.

The style of the two games (FFXI and XIV) will be totally different, so it's hard to predict what's going to happen. Most of the idiot playerbase will possibly reject the new game right away because it isn't FFXI. So will go back.

The game is ?8.99 a month to play, which over the last few months has been worthwhile.

There's been a large focus on new players lately, despite what some people who haven't played in 3 years in the FFXIV thread say. You can also play FFXI free for 14 days.

If you don't have much time to play though, personally i'd wait until the FFXIV Beta is out.
