It happened to me as well. When I started playing FF, right from the start my goal was to be a samurai. Everything went swimmingly well up until about lv50. The grind to lv60 was painfully beyond belief. Waiting in Jeuno for hours on end is soul destroying to say the least. So I did what most other samurai did, I changed jobs...to thief, another job that will lead you to sitting around in jeuno for hours on end with no invite once you hit late 50's, but I think the funnest / most interesting to play of all melee classes.
Then I changed to ranger, and shot to lv74 faster that I ever expected. I just FLEW there.
I made the same mistake as that nobba

Since moving to WOW I always compare it to FF as I'm playing, and WOW never seems to come out on top, apart from the fact that you don't have to sit around for hours on end doing sod all. That's the only problem I had with FF.
I was lorenzo in game by the way. I had a rargh LS, but was already well in with another LS beforehand, so didn't really get to play with most of you.
Wish you all the best of luck in Vana'diel!
