    8bit Computer Classic: Turbo Esprit

Did anyone ever play a really old game on the 8bit computers called Turbo Esprit . I played the Amstrad version and it was such a unique and technically amazing game for the time. In fact it was a lot like GTA, in the way you drove around a living breathing city full of traffic and people. The story revolved around hunting down Drug dealers on a map and pursuing them. Your car could fire from the front and you could travel anywhere in the city.

You could turn corners and other cars stopped at traffic lights. Pedestrians walked the streets and could be run down and you could block the road causing a line of cars that could be blown to pieces . The game seemed like a real 3D city.

I played a lot of Durell games at the end of the 8bit era and they were all technical marvels. Anyone remember Thanatos, now that was a classic aswell.

I remember this well...prototype GTA in many ways.

I used to sit at zebra crossings and mow down pedestrians...

hmmm...I worry about my childhood self sometimes

Yeah mate, I used to do that aswell. It was also fun to line-up loads of cars, causing a traffic jam and then blow them all to pieces one by one.

Just like GTA it was fun just messing around.

Knocking the workmen off their ladders was more fun

just generally cruising with 2 wheels on the curb was always great fun. i do remember that the cornering was a bitch to get used to turning a little too quick, sharp right - wall.

Just remember not to play the Commodore 64 version otherwise you'll need a few weeks of intensive counselling with a Tandy Coco just to get over the shock.

I remember buying the spectrum version from Boots in Solihull, worth it though a fun game. I wanted a lan version (via interface one) which would have been fun.

Thanatos - was that the one where you controlled a dragon or sometime simular?

I did enjoy critical mass, cant remember if i've got it anymore.

Christ, I've never seen Turbo Esprit in colour before (well, beyond the odd one or two of the speccy). I remember spending many an hour driving around Gamesborough
