Okay dokey... you asked for it here

Though admitedly there are far, far more rare NTSC games because most of them were only released in the US. Having said that, whole swathes of pirate producers are rare on PAL too.

On the NTSC front, these I would consider in the "very hard to find and above" category (machine, region, name, company, rarity 1-10, country):

Atari 2600 Artillery Duel/Ghost Manor Xonox 7 USA

Depends what you classify as Rare, NTSC and PAL games are different due to the software writing the display differently so aren't really compatable, some games are uber rare in the states and not in Europe and vice versa.

And dunno about you, but I can't really get too excited about the idea of owning a pirate cartridge of a game that is commonly available anyway. It's like buying a PS1 bootleg in 30 years time and saying 'Wow, r@r3 it has a reasonably good print of the manual and a print disc that isn't scratched...' ?_?

There are also silly things like the version of the game, defender with a blue label is very rare, but it's still defender...

Moto Rodeo (Sp?), Pole Position, Fatal Run, Ikari Warriors (my that was a ****e game...), Mario Bros, Crystal Castles, Moon Patrol, Jungle Hunt, Asterix (Dire...), Obelix, Joust and Tron - Deadly Discs (released by Telegames of all people...)if I remember correctly were all rare to very uncommon titles released titles on PAL. Obelix was only released in France but Asterix was released in the UK but in tiny numbers. Most of these games were released in the early middle to late eighties, which is why they are so hard to find as most people didn't give a toss about the 2600 by then...

Quite a lot in that PAL list are only available on PAL, or there was never an official PAL version to begin with (Crackpots and Adventures of Tron for example). But yeah, variations are variations now... depends how deep you collect. To me stuff like the Brazilian release of Moon Patrol means nothing. The Brazilian release of Donald Duck though, that's another thing, that's the only way you'll get a PAL version of it.

Asterix and Obelix are quite easy to find on PAL really... it's the NTSC versions which are the rare ones now! Actually Asterix is missing from the NTSC list above now I look at it; proper complete versions were made, though unknown how many actually made it to marketplace. My ex-gf has a copy for example

I have an NTSC Asterix too... though it's a proto. However seeing as there is only one other known proto for it, kind of makes mine slightly rarer heh.

Indeed from the NTSC list I have the following:

Atari 2600 Chase the Chuckwagon Spectravision 7 USA
Atari 2600 Crazy Climber Atari 7 USA

Just as a question, as Brazil uses PAL-M, which is a strange hybrid of the PAL video standard but the NTSC refresh rate and lines, I would have thought that Brazilian 2600 cartridges would be NTSC (525 Lines, 60Hz) with the internal hardware being tweaked for a PAL display. Although can't get a definate answer due to some FAQs saying that Brazilian carts are American NTSC versions and some saying that Brazil is PAL and therefore must use PAL carts (which is probably not the case...).

Do you have any Brazilian carts mayhem?

I don't, but I may shortly MD as I'm getting a copy of Donald Duck's Speedboat sometime in the near future. From what I've been told, Brazilian 2600s are switchable (sometimes do it automatically) between NTSC and PAL-M but the carts themselves are mainly PAL-M. Make of that what you will

As you said, PAL-M keeps the phase burst of the PAL colour frequency using the lines and refresh rate of NTSC, which means generally they don't have problems when being used in this country on a TV that can handle NTSC. They also work fine for US players but they may get strange colour palettes

Certainly the few Brazilian ROMs I have display the correct colour palette under PAL settings in emulators.
