I liked the flying Ninja's in shinobi, and clearly arcade shinobi is the don, I also liked the super shinobi on MD that was great, I don't like part 3 as much as this game

I have to confess I have a soft spot for the Saturn version Shinobi X? Its actually very very good once you get into it, level 3 in the mines is total class.

If you do buy the arcade version of Shinobi, make sure it doesn't have a suicide battery in it.

It's one of my all time favourite arcade games (I nearly love it as much as Strider) and I try and play it on MAME whenever possible. In fact, I'm going to play it right now...

My vote would go with shinobi. Probably one of my fave games ever and still as great today as it was back in my local video shop in 1987. It's the the flow of the game, level/enemy design and little tricks you can pull off that make it so good.

Here's a cool trick i used to use on the level 3 boss mandara. It allows you to skip the budas unhurt.

Yeah thats the trick I mean, although I thought there was a way of getting through without using magic? I could be mistaken though. (Probably am).

Revenge of Shinobi on the MD. Is in my eye's the best Ninja game around (don't think anything will beat it). In the Arcade though, then it would be Shadow Dancer

"Revenge..." is second only to the original, but yeah that game was superb.

It had excellent music, too. And ninja nuns.

I'll just about vote for arcade shinobi, rolling thunder is close and you have to respect it for doing that sort of thing first, it has great gameplay and soulful music too, but shinobi has ninja's so it obviously has the edge!

Now The Super Shinobi II / Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is perhaps not the well honed classic as the previous 2 but young shinobi in this game does have ninja gaiden like skills to bounce up walls and do mad dash assault attacks. You have to respect this game for making our beloved shinobi kick incomprehensable amounts of ass! Better than the original megadrive shinobi if only for the dash which I love using. Surfboards and horses are a bit crap but it's better than the ZEED maze at the end of super shinobi 1

GG shinobi was good too, I liked how he could change colours and have different abilities, classic platforming

The one good thing about arcade shinobi is the one hit and your dead factor... something missing from the megadrive series of shinobis..... I do actually prefer the MD version of shadow dancer to the arcades for some reason also, seemed like a purer game to me

did he change colours? i thought it was a different ninja that you selected, hence the different weapons. It was that long a go i cant remember.............sigh.............

i don't think he could just change colours at will, but for certain parts of the game you would play with a ninja who was one colour who could walk upside down on walls (green?), etc and another ninja had better firepower (probs red)

It was like wonderboy 3 mixed with shinobi, sort of puzzley

definaltly!. The megadrive version is better on everyway, it's a WAY more polished game overall.

I didn't really like MD Shadow Dancer very much, and was very disappointed when I first booted it up and found out it was an interpretation of the arcade version, rather than a direct conversion,
A game which really deserves a mention is MD Eswat, this game is feckin great, not up to the standard of ARC Shinobi but probably a better title than Rolling Thunder and the other stuff mentioned, much better than ARC Eswat
