Are there honestly only about 400 games available for the JAP MD? I have always thought there were closer to 1000. We live and learn hey. I have about 5 jap md games currently.

I'd be interested in seeing more info on this book as I'm very close to buying it myself.

...and I've just bought it! Just won it on ebay (there was one on Buy It Now and it only had 15 hours left - totally forgot about looking on there). Brand new and sealed, and cheaper than Play Asia, too.

So when that arrives will should be able to shed some light on this.

The book arrived this morning, quite quick too - took less than a week!

Here's some quick impressions as I've only had a brief look at it so far.

The bad news - it's all in Japanese - even the game titles, which makes it a bit hard to tell which game is which as you're only given one screenshot. Some games you can spot right away but some of the more obscure ones are harder to name. This is a bit of a pisser as one of the reasons for me getting the book in the first place was to get a better understanding of the games released for the machine. Still, you can't really blame the Japanese for not publishing a book in English, can you? The reviews themselves are quite small but again in Japanese so it doesn't make any difference to us Westerners. Some games are given full page reviews, and these sometimes have two screenshots, but all the normal size reviews only have one screenshot. There are interviews in there too, but other than a few nice photos they don't really mean anything if you can't read Japanese.

The good news - The general presentation is excellent, and rather than list the games in alphabetical order they're listed in year order, which IMO is great as you can trace the early roots right up to the last game released for the machine. The screenshots are on the whole excellent quality, too. Plus the little Megadrive console you get is great - although it's actually the US branded Genesis which is a bit annoying. It comes with Comix Zone and Virtua Fighter 2 cartridges (again both Genesis-style - boo!). Needless to say it's an awesome little toy and now has pride of place on the top of my monitor at work.

To sum up - Not a complete waste of money on my part as I've been after something like this for ages, but I wish they'd have put the English titles of the games as well as the Japanese. But as I said before you can't complain as this book was intended for Japanese readers, not English.

Anychance you could do a few scans of the pages so we can see how its presented?

Also who is the publisher Duddy?

In the next few years when DC development has ceased I'd like to do a similiar updated book for the Dreamcast.

I aquired this book sometime ago, and I was pleased with it As you said, it's in Japanese but what else can you expect, I doubt it was even meant for a European release. The over all finish is superb and it's a nice addition for any serious collector.

The little Megadrive is a nice touch and I can now say that I own a copy of Comix Zone OK, it doesn't work... but you didn't ask that did you.

I've no idea who the publisher is but the word 'Continue' appears on the book and box in various places, I assume this is the company/brand who created it.

EDIT - Oh, and it also says 'Megadrivers Custom' inside the book several times, maybe this has something to do with the publisher too.

I don't have a scanner so I can't post any pages up, sorry.

                  Maybe Carbon Boy can help?

Sorry for the shameless bump of this dead duck...but anyone ever get or find a complete Japanese Megadrive release list (in English)?

I only ask as I've lost the one I had, that Continue Book is pretty gash, and I have begun to knock one up the last day or so...and sadly am about 20-30 titles off the mark..maybe more due to all the sodding koei crap that I've no doubt duplicated in there (as well as the fact I can't be arsed to add the cat nos to properly eliminate the dupes etc)..

                          So can anyone help?

MD had the complete list, but true to form he wouldn't let anyone have it! What an arsehole, eh?

Well I'm not going to slag off someone who can't defend themselves here any longer...he was gonna send it to me but then clearly developed a phobia of sending things in general.

I'm just annoyed that my list died with my last pc and I can't find the sodding backup copy. Ah well...I'm almost there now..418 official releases, 7 hardware carts, 2 unofficial and 7 rumours/unreleased etc..so about 4-6 official releases to go (which I cannot for the life of me remember!)

If someone sent me the Japanese copy I could translate it.
