Despite the collisions being disables in multiplayer, it's very fun to play. There's even a puzzle mode where you have to design circuits, using a limited set of blocks, to go through pre-set checkpoints in a limited time.

A sequel is in the works.
Yeah, Trackmania is a great game, Lan mode has provided me with hours of fun. The sequel looks infinitely better though, and will probably be one of the best games next year.

Heh, that looks pretty cool. But does it have teh physics!?!

I was thinking today... it'd be pretty easy to dump the Speccy memory, disassembly the source and reverse engineer it (unless someone has the source, you know, just lying around...) into your fave programming language and port it to everything on the planet, with teh fancy 3D graphics...

Anyone got some time to spare?

omg Trackmania what a surprise that was! Picked it up for ?4.99 on Deal of the Week thingy from GAME it really is incredibly addictive and the physics are fantastic. One of the PCs damn fine games in a genre it isn't renouned for, it's almost like the new micromachines as well with the deep track builder (once you've acctually unlocked enough pieces to make them) and there is a great online community for sharing new track designs (not too dissimilar to what there was for Rollercoaster Tycoon with the tracksharer. Theres a sequel coming u say? Who needs Stunt Car Driver

Stunt car driver, omg I played it on the speccy emulator and it really is teh pwn XD jus need to track an amiga version down now.

Marklar - there's a demo of Track Mania available - give it a go.

Personally, it just felt 'wrong' somehow; I didn't get along with it that well. But the demo is sufficiently huge that you'll know pretty well one way or the other if you want to part with cash. Fully playable online, too.

Ahem, I had a blast on the Amiga version last night. It pwns, seriously damn good. Shocking is how fast the drones drive along; they plod a bit on the Speccy version (good as it is) but damn they're fast on the Amiga. Ace sfx too, proper engine noises!

/me reads back a few posts

            Still need to try Trackmania

I agree with you there mate. I think wipeout took this concept and brought it up a few notches though.

When I want a buzz like stunt car racer I load up wipeout pure on my psp - fantastic game

SCR was cool - but when I got 4D Sports Driving on my PC I never looked back

This game was the business I will need to check out this Track-mania..

Trackmania Sunrise is pretty smart - about the closest thing to SCR in terms of the scale of jumps & stuff but it doesn't give you that 'lurching' sensation SCR was so good at.

Gonna need to check out that remake tonight - And fire up UAEX and check if it's on my disc - oh lord I'll be so happy if I can replay that on Amiga on the big TV

after reading this I had to play it (on winuae).... it still amazes me that I still knew (erm .... almost then) with what speed I had to take the ramps! this game still is hugely playable today!
I remember playing it 2 player link-up, now that was a blast !
This game is begging for a remake! (and playable via xbox live !)

Trackmania 1 is the one to go for. Sunrise is a lot different- with more of a Ridge Racer style of play. No1 has a very Stunt Car vibe, and on Ebay you can probably get it for a few quid!

I remember that game well - the amount of time my brother and I spent creating tracks to race on was inconcievable. I'm still trying to work out what the 4th dimension was though ...

Whenever I see this thread at the top of the forum, I always forget that it doesn't continue with "and all I got was this crappy t-shirt". It's doing my ****ing swede in Marklar.

With that said I'd love to see a sequel to Stunt Car Racer. I never played the 8-bit versions, but I hear only good things about them; even the C64 version (a machine never famed for its 3D capabilities). The ST and Amiga versions though, I played a lot, and they're still great today.

Track_Mania and the sequel(s) look really good, any news on a console port for these?

Also, if you like Stunt Car Racer then you really should purchase Rollcage: Stage II. It's available at all* good (and some bad) software stores for just ?2.99. The main racing modes of this futuristic racer look a bit rough now, but you really must own this for the fantastic "Scramble mode". Imagine a cross between WipEout, Super Monkey Ball and Stunt Car Racer and you're getting warm. The controls feel a little twitchy, but I can still play this today.

                          *Well, most.

I've played a lot of these types of games and none have ever come close to achieving the sense of weight and height Stunt Car achieved.

That was what made the game so great to me. To literally take off from some of those enormous jumps and feel as though you were trashing through the air hundreds of feet off the ground. Amazing.

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past.

Marklar - if you want to try TrackMania, I bought it a while back, and played it until boredom; you can have mine for a pittance if you want.

Il Postino man, you got me thinking. F355 kind of physics, like in car handling + Stunt Car Racer. Where's that man Geoff when you want him?
