    KoF question

Hello - which KoF is best for the Dreamcast? Please omit 2000 and 2001, as I have these on PS2; are there any others available?

If not, what about on PS1? I know there are plenty on the Saturn, unfortunately this is about the only console I don't own.

KOF 99: Evolution is awesome - in fact it's regarded by some as the best home KOF available (not including the AES versions, obviously). But KOF 99: Dream Match (which is actually KOF 98 ) is also worth owning as it has a massive character roster and a cool anime intro. Both games have lush 3D backgrounds (unlike the other KOF games that were released on the DC).

Both can be picked up pretty cheaply on import. I recently sold a Japanese copy of Dream Match for less than ?15 on fleabay.

Have managed to hopefully purchase a 99 Evo off another forum user. Thanks for the advice!

Don't suppose anyone can recommend any of the Fatal Fury titles I have seen out there? Obviously Mark Of The Wolves is very expensive - but have seen PS1 and even PC versions of Real Bout, Ambition and FF3 out there - any cop?

Sure, there aren't any crap ones out there imo, FF3 oft gets over looked, CD versions have a wonderful AST, maybe the PC version is ok, i hear the Saturn version sucks it, but guess your not concerned there.

Mark of the Wolves felt out of touch on the DC for me, I'm not a massive fan of the game in general, I cant deny it has great quality.

As far as Fatal Fury goes, Mark of the Wolves is the best, atleast in my opinion. That game is so fluid, so much fun to play, I say it's worth it. The DC version is not that expensive really.

For KOF I think 99 DM is the best. It's basically KOF 98 with some 3D thrown in the background, a great anime intro and loading between matches (ugh). While the loading between matches is annoying and unnecessary, this game is probably my most played game ever, if it had a counter it would probably be in the 2000's hours by now . For me and my mates it's the ultimate VS game, our skill levels are very close so we can play it for hours on end.

About the PS1 versions, personally I haven't played them but I have only heard bad things about them, which makes sense because the PS1 just isn't that great at 2D.

Forget the PS1 versions. You should see 99 compared to 99 Evo. ****ing hilarious.
Real Bout Special is the mutts but I can't say how good the Saturn conversion is as I've never played it.

Have just purchased KoF 99 Evo on DC, decided to get Guilty Gear X2 instead of a Fatal Fury title. Either way, I think that is quite enough 2D beat 'em up action to keep me going for a few months.........

Mark of the Wolves on DC is just bloody great, it's devoid of loading times, looks exactly like the Neo Version, the only fault with it is some SFX come out maybe half a second later than usual, and the music stops at the end of a round; but this is just rediculous nit-picking. Well worth the money.

I'd 2nd KOF99EVO for the best DC port. Good looking 3D backgrounds (airport is lush) , awesome AST music , nice bonus strikers. Can be had dirt cheap, also.

As regards to the Fatal Fury games,
Fatal Fury 3 has been the worst ported of the bunch. The Saturn version has HORRENDOUS load times, which absolutely kill it. It even suffers from framerate issues and slowdown, avoid!
The PC port is regarded as the best, it's cheap, but they're are in fact many missing details. For example, On sokaku's stage, the 3rd Fight takes place in the day. On the Neo version, it's at night with the wagon in the middle on fire...so just a subtle difference. Also, the train on Yamazaki's stage never comes - which is especially odd as the screen shakes and the SFX plays!

On the other hand, the PS1 port of Real Bout Fatal Fury is quite a good transition. Most of the game is intact , the only thing missing is a few of the ring out animations. and the loading times aren't to bad, and the offshoot is the AST. Definetely recommended.
The Saturn version of the above is almost identical bar quicker load times as it uses the ram cart, and all the ring out animations are intact.

Real Bout Special on the Saturn is an awesome port. Huge sprites, AST , exceptionally quick loading times for sprite size and amounts of detail on screen. Uses ram cart. Approx 10-12 second load each fight, so not bad at all

In a rare trump, the PSX version "Real Bout Special: Dominated Mind" is actually better than the Saturn version! It has an Anime intro which is really nice, an exclusive boss character (White) and Alfred from the Neo's RB2. Also the backgrounds have been reworked to show more detail, i.e On the beach stage, they're is now a volleyball game going on, and on Tung Fu Ru's/Chonrei's china stage theyre are now old fashinoned boats fishing in the sea... Load times are a little longer than saturn (15 seconds +) but still comes heartedly recommended.

Sadly RB2 has never been ported , only a Neo CD version.

That might be a little unfair; it is a class piece and deff recomended tho i'd say its more of a remix with great new features........taking out the line sway element is a pretty big loss to the RBS game. Doesnt stop this being really good but as a port its quite drastic.
