    Plug n play titles

After witnessing a street fighter 2 and ghouls n ghosts pad getting 9/10 recemtly (despite its ?30 price tag) I was wondering if anyone thought these devices were actually worth the money.

I can appreciate the need for saving space, but I don't really understand why people would want to pay X amount of money for SNES and megadrive conversions of arcade games when it's probably possible to give you the real thing.

Am I totally missing something here, or do all the retro regulars here swear by these devices?

Sorry what device is it that allows you to play SF2 & G&G?

Thats pretty cool, although for ?30 I'm sure you can find the real thing and some spare change.
It looks suprisingly good quality though. Much like the pre-released Sega edition and if the price was lowered to ?15 i probably would pick on up just to stick in the spare room.

        Its Street Fighter 2CE!!

I am sure the first time I read the thread titles, it said "plug and play titties"! I needs to get out more

Seems cool tho. I remember somewhere that these could be modded to play regualr MD games since these are basically MDs with the cartride slot removed. Would be cooler if they had some kind of decent arcade stick instead of pads, so you had that genuine arcade feel.

Are these available in Japan? i didn't realise they are official sega products like the Sonic set.

More interested now as i am sure i ca pick one up for between 10 & 15 quid.

I dont really get it, seems like a bit of a fad. Only getting about 6 games a time means that soon youre gonna have hundreds of these little boxes and controllers all over the place.

I think companies are cashing in on peoples rose tinted childhood when, tbh, they can just go down a second hand shop and pick up the machine and games.

That's exactly my opinion of them. Also, why should we have to settle for megadrive ports? Surely the technology has come far enough now that we could have the original arcade versions of titles like Street Fighter 2 and ghouls n ghosts?

Doubt whether the arcade co.s want their software or roms used in this way, mind you theyre missing out on a trick here; think how much they could make if they released a few plug-and-play packs instead of losing all their intelectual property through MAME etc. That i might consider buying rather than a pack of imperfect ports.

For sure, i'd buy a SF2 arcade version for ?30, but i wouldn't be bothered about getting an MD convertion.

These things are everywhere and are aimed at casual buyers. The only other type of gamer that wants them is collectors; and they wouldn't open the things anyway.

If they had the top 30 MD of all time on them, then yes I would buy one. Its just a shame that they are so stingy with the games.

Very true. If only we could get something like the TecToy Sega consoles they had in Brazil. The Mega Drive version had 60 inbuilt games and the Master System 105(!).

What also puts me off is the lack of RGB output on those things.

Yeah, composite gaming isn't worth my time. These things are for easy going casuals, or a present for kids.
