    SFC Flash Cart Advice

I've been thinking about the fact i missed out on some supposedly great Japanese SFC RPG's like Bahumut Lagoon and i really want to play them, but i don't want to play them on emulators. This led me to find the following site:

ToToTEK : - Classic Console Tools & Parts TTK Product Open Source DIY ecommerce, open source, shop, online shopping, store

Now i wasn't intending on using the flash cart for evil pircay purposes, i was genuinly thinking of using it to backup some of my own carts to save me using them, and to buy the originals of some Japanese RPG's which i see on ebay occasionally and then put the translated roms onto the flash card. The thing is i wanted to know if anyone has one of these and if so how good is it? Any info or advice is appreciated.

If i knew it would work 100% with the translated version of wonder project J rom id buy it in a instant.

All i would need to do is put the board inside my original wonder project cart & voilla a perfect edition with cool japanese artwork & english text (drool)

You can get a similar device, the Game Doctor, on here for much cheaper http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/shop/copiers/copiers.htm

These don't operate on Flash technology, but essentially serve the same purpose. These are the units people used 'back in the day'.

Hmm, i remember the old disk drive, didn't know you could still get them. I'm not a massive fan of them actually, a friend of mine used to run an importers back in the early 90s and he used to have loads of them about, but i never bothered with one. Out of them all i liked the Multi Game Doctor best, that was a nice bit of kit.

I might take a gamble and give the flash cart a go, i'll report back with my findings.

i've still got a profighter ex 2. I wonder if there is some way of connecting a disk drive to them so I could run games off cd rather than rely on ****ty hd disks.

Just noticed this thread - I have the MD and SNES Tototek flash carts. I own tons of original MD/SNES carts already so I've hardly used the flash carts at all.
If you do want me to try out any games in particular, just let me know.

I know that Star Ocean won't run as once it's decompressed it's too large to fit on the flash cart, and the flash cart won't run any games which had additional hardware (e.g. Mario RPG).

No reason why any of the others wouldn't work though - I've used the translated version of Tales of Phantasia and it worked perfectly.

I would have thought that the flash carts are easier to get patched roms up and running than on one of the older disk systems, purely on the fact you dont have to convert them to hi and low roms etc. there seems to be an adapter for it.

You dont need to convert them to hi/low roms on the old systems though. Infact it is exactly the same getting them up and running on the flash cart as it is on the older copiers. Its hardly any trouble though, just use Ucon64 to remove the PAL/NTSC and copy protection if needed.

And I believe Star Ocean decompressed and translated now works on certain copiers [SF7 / DX2] thanks to much fiddling by a certain individual. SF7 has a maximum of 128mbit of memory which is plenty for Star Ocean, and I recall a cut back version was released to run in the 64mbit that the DX2 comes with.

And although beaklips isnt on this board anymore certain copiers had the option of running from external HDs and CD drives. Some even went so far to use SNES clone technology to package a copier/cd drive/snes in a funky console.
