Couple of SFC questions for y'all

Hi there, basically fellas, I need to know how to get the best possible picture from my lovely new ( ish ) SFC. Currently I'm using the bog standard, bundled lead that connects to the TV via the red, white and yellow cables...composite signal?

I had the same issue with my Neo Geo AES about a year ago but later bought a RGB Scart lead from videogameimports.com to remedy the washed out composite signal I had been using. That worked a treat for my AES and I'm now wondering if there's a similar lead out there for a Japanese SF to improve things?

Also, are there such things as Japanese-to-English translation guides for some of the fine RPG's that feature on the SFC? I recently bought Seiken Densetsu 3 and ChronoTrigger and I'd really love to get my teeth into them without having to sign up for a ?300+ Japanese language course!

I've read reviews on both games and everyone seems to rave about them...10 out of 10 literally everywhere I looked. Managed to pick up them both up...boxed, including all instructions and registration cards, in near mint condition for about ?20 shipped to my door...just couldn't resist.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

AFAIK an RGB mod plus a Gamecube RGB lead gives the best possible picture.

With regards to the translations, I haven't a clue!

If you have a standard SFC, just buy a GC RGB SCART lead. If you have the junior version however, then it'd need modding first for RGB.

As for translations, you can find patches that will translate a ROM image into English. Then you either need a flash cart or an eprom burner & donor cart to play the fully translated game on your SuperFami.

Or just buy the US version of Chrono Trigger, far easier

And yeah just use a GC RGB cable.

Easier but a lot more expensive

(expect to pay ?20 for a loose cart and anything up to ?50 for a complete copy)

If you can buy an English version of a game, then get it.

I don't do romz n' warez unless a game reaches either criteria:
              1. I can't buy an english version, anywhere. Therefore ROM + trans patch & cart hack/flash cart = ok, as long as I buy the Jpn original and therefore own the game (yeah, technically it's still naughty, but hey..)

              2. The game was never released, therefore I can't go to the shop and buy a real original copy. Anyways, I'd be pretty pi$$ed if I'd spent 2yrs working on a game only to be told it was canned. I'd pilfer a copy and release it myself..

Back to the SF, yeah get an RGB Scart. It'll improve the picture quality loads.

Thanks for everything so far, just one more thing regarding the RGB Scart cable though...can I use ANY GC scart lead, does it matter if it's from a UK GC?

I was about to buy one from HMV for about ?25 but was cautious as I thought it might not work on my Japanese SF because it had something written on the box that said it would only work on UK/PAL Gamecubes...I assumed from that text that it would be no good for an import console...was I right to be warey?

Also, does ?25 sound abit steep to you?

                Thanks again

I bought one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW and it works fine with my US SNES, so it should be fine with your SFC.

The reason it says UK/PAL GC only is because NTSC cubes don't output RGB from the A/V socket (you have to get it via the digital out socket). This isn't true for PAL machines. Anyway, looks like someone is helping you out
