That's what I said. It shouldn't really be considered alongside the MD and SNES.

    8-bit CPU, 16-bit graphics.

Considering that the PCE was in direct competition with the MD and SNES I think it's fair to include it in this debate. However if the PCE is your favourite console then CPU power shouldn't even be an issue.

I agree duddy 100%..just reminding people that the pce was 8-bit (in case anephrics shout to that effect was lost in the thread). Plus it was also in direct competition with the famicom for a few years too (as the sfc came out 3 years(?) after the pce)

All three of them are wicked consoles with loads of great games. In fact just about every console that ever existed has games to make you want to pick up and play it for one reason or another. There is absolutely no way you can compare these three consoles and pick out the "best" one. I own a MD and a SNES and wouldn't part with either. Similarly, I have played loads of PCE stuff, love the thing to bits and will get one at some point. All three of these RULE.

Right - next thread - Jaguar vs 3DO, anyone?

Sega MD for me. I owned both during the golden age but always had a soft spot for the MD.There was also the advantage of playing Mortal Kombat uncensored on Sega's fantastic six button pad (Still the greatest pad for StreetFighter ever). Other Sega games I loved were Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 1 +2 and Gunstar Heroes (pisses over Contra from a great height)
As for the SNES I remember playing Super Mario World at a friends house and at that moment deciding I had to have one. No other game has had that kind of reaction since and is perhaps the most perfect game ever made. I suppose the only reason I'm going for the MD was it was my step up from 8-bit and overall I guess I played it more.

In regards to Wheelaas post in particular...

To be honest I think the idea of this post (or id like to assume) was to give personal views as to whats best. I think that the title should have read `give your reasons whats best vs etc`. As each and everytime this is going to come down to personal experience.

There arent, to be fair, many people who are going to own a PCE, let alone all 3 consoles. This therefore makes whatever you do put down very personal to what the indiviual knows or has previously experienced. Afterall as we can tell, theres no one who hasnt owned a PCE and has stated that it is the better of the 3 consoles.

                  Hysty

The PC Engine holds the best memories for me as i remember when it first came out. One of my friends picked one up and it seems really mystical that he bought a Japanese import, it was something we had never heard of when we were still playing on C64's and Spectrums. The graphics, sound etc were amazing compared to the NES and Master Systems of the day, it really genuinly felt like having an arcade machine at home and we spent loads of time playing R-Type, Vigilante, Shinobi, Legendary Axe etc. I got my own one soon after and have always had one since although i only got a Duo RX a couple of years ago.

I guess on reflection the SFC is probably the best console but the PC Engine and Megadrive (which i also got back then) hold great memories, and it was an amazing time for games. If i hadn't have seen and bought my engine back then i doubt i would be on a site like this today.

I think out of the 3 consoles mentioned, the PCE was probably the only one real as near to arcade perfect ports you can get, which along with the freaky Jap games was most of it's appeal.

But how many people in the UK have heard of that system? I'm betting not many.
