Golden Axe 3 won't work without a converter.

Golden Axe 2 will load, but it's one of the games that isn't compatible with the six button pad (Forgotten Worlds is the only other one I've come across) so you can't actually play it properly on a Nomad (which has a six button setup). The game runs but you have no control whatsoever.

Can't you disable the 6-button mode by holding 'Mode' as it boots?

Good stuff. I love Golden Axe 2, even if it is only a 're-spray' of the first game. Some of the music in that game is fantastic. Enjoy.

Both of those "Asian" versions of Golden Axe III are not Japanese. If you look closely they both have an Asian Version sticker on them.

I didn't say it said that they were both Asian I'm just letting you know that the one that says Japanese version is in fact the same copy as the Asian version. Just helping out, that's all

Me too. It never gets much acclaim but it's really a very fun fighter.

And the music is indeed excellent.

Golden Axe 3 I liked less though. Felt like a step backwards, the graphics were really quite shoddy.

When I saw the first screenshot of GA2 in Mean Machines I nearly wet my pants. It looked AMAZING. I think the reason people were so harsh on it back then is because it was a very lazy follow up. Regardless of this it's still a great game, every bit as playable as the original.

GA3 I didn't play until the late 90's and TBH I have a soft spot for it. You can see Sega really, really tried to create something the fans would love, but it just ended up being a bit of a mess. The controls are all over the place - at times you feel like you have complete control over your character, only to have the stuffing knocked out of you seconds later due to the crap collision detection and irratic controls. With a bit of tweaking it could have been amazing. As it stands it's still worth playing (some great music again) but I wouldn't pay more than a tenner for it.
