Another Car Boot Bargain - Amiga 600

Managed to get hold of an Amiga 600 with joystick, mouse and all leads as well as a copy of Sensible Soccer for THREE ENGLISH POUNDS.

I never owned an Amiga back in the day (ST man all the way) and I've no idea what versions of the Amiga were the best. My mate had a 500, so I'm assuming this one is better...but it's so tiny. It's probably the size of a C64! What features does this machine have and will I need anything extra to play all the Amiga games? Sensible Soccer mentions something about 1MEG expansion - does this have it built in?

I'm no Amiga expert, but I'm pretty sure the Amiga 600 is basically an Amiga 500 with the 1Meg expansion (and no numbpad).
The real 'upgrade' as far as Amiga's go was the 1200, but I don't think there were many games incompatible with the older generation... some games, such as SSF2, had separate ECA (500, 600 etc) and AGA (1200) releases.

Someone who actually knows something about Amiga's could correct me on that mind.

I personally have an Amiga600HD, same thing but with a 20Meg HDD =P

The A600 is the ****s0rs. Any game/program that needs the numerical pad (e.g. flight sims, DPaint) is sorta screwed. There are quite a few games that don't like AGA (even if you disable from the boot menu by pressing both mouse buttons down) but you can get hold of a program called KickBoot that will emulate old Kickstart 1.3 Amigas to let you run older software.

I flogged my A600HD for an A1200HD as soon as I could. AND I'd paid full price for it. But, hey, for ?3 it's a bargain.

Only an Atari n00b would buy an A600

Shucks. Well that kinda blows. However I doubt I'll be playing any flight sims on it so I won't worry too much.

So does the 600 defo have the 1MEG built in?

          Yep, I promise.

I remember my mate had an A500+, and Frontier ran so much better on my machine all cause of the 1Meg RAM.

You wanna get a hold of syndicate wars and cannon fodder, the orginal settlers was a good laugh on the Amiga

IIRC, Syndicate wars wasn't available for the Amiga (I've only played the pc version and couldn't imagine the amiga handling the 3D involved).

Do you mean the original syndicate?

I thought the 500+ had the 1meg memory too?
I picked up a A1200 with stacks of games a couple of years back for a small amount from gash converters.
Suprised Duddy hasn't started a best Amiga games thread yet .

I need a scart lead for me Amiga 1200 if anyone has one floating around?

Keep the A600 and get a 1200 if possible.
The A600 is better for older disk based stuff (unless it's AGA specific) demos etc. and the 1200 + HD = games heaven!!!
                  (WHDload + games pack = )

I managed to pick up an A1200 + Amiga Monitor + sticks + box of discs for ?2 from a car boot once. It hurt, carrying that lot around.

                        ?3 though - good find

The A600 was a turkey. My Brother bought one and soon took it back because it failed to play most of his favourite games. Then he got a A1200 which was cool enough- still had a few problems but by that time the Amiga was dying so we sold all our Amiga stuff and got a PC.

If anyone wants an Amiga to play all the classics it's best to buy a A500+. The machine has 1meg and plays everything- best choice!

The A500+ doesn't play everything - it has issues with several earlier A500 games.
