I agree that the hardware drives the industry. But its sooooo counter productive today. Just check the thread and news reports where sony is predicted to lose a billion on the development and sale of the PS3. How is this driving the industry foward?

I don't think it was tbh. All the power in the world doesn't mean good games follow, even back then.

i have always thought what was capable on console when people think the limits of the system were met another game comes that blow it out of the water.

i did always think if the snes and megadrive still had games produced now how would they look

Very true indeed, up to a point of course! Not gonna get halo visuals on the md or snes

I do think the md (not counting 32x or mcd) had games near the end of its life that had pretty much got as much out of the md as poss. I do wish the saturn had been supported for a few more years. You only have to look at later games like PD Saga as well as stuff like the Shenmue vids to see how much more this baby could have given.

As for the current gen..wtf! There's years left in them!

Exactly man, the graphics are good enough for me, and they're improving all the time. I'll definitely be "hiding" from the next-gen.

trouble is can always picture what i want a game to be example if developers really tried they could make a awesome 2d castlevania game for the ps2 with hi res graphics incredible animation (taking basically the psone game symphony of the night and improving it in all areas) but no i get a 3d castlevania game which just does not feel right

and with the megadrive compare the first few good games to the last few if the console was still going would games make a similar leap in quality

I don't think they would (re the md). The later games really maxed out its power imo!
