Dreamcast - the last great console?

Does anyone else think that the Dreamcast was the last great console? The other three from this generation have SOME quality games, but they are far and few between. Plus most games on the DC, and earlier consoles put most of the games today to shame. Do you think we'll ever see a resurgence in the games industry where a console has so many good games available like the DC?

I've enjoyed the X-Box just as much (if not more) than the DC.
Plus it's high time people woke up to the fact that as good as the DC was it wasn't a patch on the Saturn.

That's the best SEGA console, and the best console made full stop

I have often thaught this my self, there is just far to much junk avilible on the other consoles. Another thing i think makes the DC the last great console is that you can still see "computer graphics" sorry i cant put this better but what i mean is that everyhitng doesn't look shiney and refined like it does on the other consoles and most definatly will do on the nex gen consoles. It really is ashame that is had to go the way it did for that console but its still good to see the odd game now and then leaking out of japan! Another thing i think made this console so great is that it was basically a clone of the naomi hardware, and perhaps for the first time allowing true arcade quality games to hit the home market even if some of them didnt port so well (vf 3tb!)

There were some great games on it - stupidly I lent mine to a friend who's now apparently left the country to escape debtors! (I think the Dreamcast is fairly far down his list of problems.) I'm thinking of buying another one - must have played Ready 2 Rumble for ten hours straight with my brother when we got ours in 1999. Jet Set Radio, NBA, Marvel vs Capcom... thems was the days.

The Dreamcast was a great console for the time. But now, it doesn't stand up that well. If I was to only have the one console I'd definitely pick the PS2.

Maybe, Saturn i sprobably my personal Sega choice, but can see the DC view.

What shames is that the DC i understand as having the last true Sega games, their 3rd party games just arent the same, perhaps too eager to conform, arcade convresions aside.

              The truth.

Also have to agree that the Saturn was a better console.

Actually had my Dreamcast on the other day for the first time since Psyvariar 2 came out. One thing I had forgotten about was just how frikkin' loud those GD-ROM drives are.

I still like my Dreamcast but I haven't touched it in about six months. I certainly wouldn't say it's the last great console. I wouldn't even say the DC is the best console this generation tbh but I guess it's all down to personal opinion...topics like this are just asking for arguments

I love the Dreamcast but I'd have to say that the Saturn wins in my book. The Saturn just has so many more class games than the DC. The Dreamcast is still an amazing console and for any of you who think the PS2 is any better then why not take a look at some first gen Dreamcast goodies here http://www.seganet.com.br/forum/inde...showtopic=8311

Just try and tell me that Clair from Bio Hazard Code Veronica doesn't look good even though it was made in 1998 (released 1999). Dreamcast through VGA can still look mighty good. I'm not saying that the DC is more powerful thanthe PS2 but that the DC was by far the most impressive console of it's time.

The Saturn was never a graphical power-house in my eyes- it was all about the gameplay of certain titles- such as Sega Rally!

The Dreamcast on the other hand really did have mind-blowing graphics for it's time. Soul Calibur was a game that blew people away- it's graphics were way above anything else around. The machine had F355- a perfect beautiful arcade conversion. Not forgetting Crazy Taxi- another game that brought arcade perfection in to the home.

The Saturn had a selection of immensely playable games- and provided a broad spectrum of deep involving experiences.

The Dreamcast also had a broad range of titles- maybe not as many as the Saturn but enough to satisfy. It's the machines AAA titles that made the machine shine and poor specimens like SegaRally2 shouldn't be allowed to tarnish the machines memory.

I vote for the Dreamcast! It's best games were graphically glorious- sonically triumphant and took gameplay to a higher level.

I think more folk will begin to appreciate the finer points of the DC as it ages, like fine wine.

Sega's output circa '98-'01 and Capcom's unwavering support are the only things that need mentioning!
An amazing console and the best of the 128bit generation.

got into Dreamcast late and it is indeed a fine console

                              loads of gems on it

unsure whether the saturn is better, but i'm growing to love the saturn everytime i play a new game - its still not quite there but if i come across more belters, the saturn will be a better console than the dc
