    Dreamcast Ports?

Recently purchased my 1st Dreamcast. Love the console, and amazed at the size of the game catalogue! Noticed there are a number of games out there that I already own on other formats, e.g., Hydro Thunder, Shadowman and Bangaio (N64), and Soul Reaver (PS1). Is there a significant difference, and is there anything that's definitely worth trading for Dreamcast format? Thanks.

I have only played the mentioned games briefly- but Hydro Thunder is the one that is vastly superior. It is high-res- much cleaner looking and moves better.

The others are basically the same but with better resolution and sharpness!

I'm not sure about content though- they could have a few extras!

Bangaio is a must-buy on the DC. Should be quite cheap too.

I wouldn't bother with Soul Reaver. I hated the controls on the DC port compared to the original and the high resolution doesn't do much for the low poly, low detail environments and characters.

Hydro Thunder is a bloody classic on the DC so much better.

Soul Reaver DC as much better graphics and a supersmooth 60 fps. The other I'll stick with the N64 versions.

Also if you have Rayman II on the N64, get the DC version. Its looks fecking amazing to this day.

Cool, that's a good start. I really enjoyed playing hydro, so will definitely check out the dreamcast version. I picked up a disney cart game for the kids the other day, and couldn't believe how fast it was compared to the mariokart games (inc double dash!). And the other bonus is everything is so cheap. Saying that....even the Deamcast Bangaio seems to fetch a fair price though. How exactly is it improved over the n64 version?

Don't really know. I've only had my N64 Bangaio two weeks and haven't played it much yet. I'll guess and say that the music is improved x10, the way the game plays with counter attacks being more important than collecting fruit is better, but the main reason to buy it is that it has the funniest translation and dialogue ever for a game.

Ahhhh! Rayman II....the 1st 3D game I ever played (late starter!). I had it on PS1 1st, and played it so much my hand was knackered for months! Gorgeous game though. Yes I do have the N64 version now, so will also look out for that one. Not one copy for sale on ebay at the moment though?

Rayman 2 on DC is probably my alltime favourite 3D platformer, it's just so beautiful and it plays so well .

Bangaio isn't improved graphically- and will shock most DC fans- because the visuals are very blocky!

It's worth getting because it's a nice game!

Rayman 2 on the DC is indeed lovely. A brilliant game. Shame that the DS version is so poor.

What ever you do don't get Nightmare Creatures II ! That is basically the PSX version with nothing added. Pure ****.

Apart from loading up the game at the start, there's no loading times in the DC version of Soul Reaver. The game is like one massive level.

Also Rayman 2 on DC is much better than the versions on systems it was ported from.

Yeah, another vote for Rayman 2 here. Wonderful game.

Markpsych: The Disney Racing game you speak of, is it the Magical Racing Tour one? I've played that a little bit but the completely heinous rendition of Chip 'n' Dale put me off - they look bloody awful
