    Super Play envelope art.

For some reason I remembered this this morning while getting ready for work. The pages near the back of the magazine that played host to pictures of envelope artwork that readers had sent. Some of it was brilliant, it's a shame that email had to supercede it.

Who fancies playing host to NTSC envelope art?

I have the SuperPlay postcards somewhere with Will's art on!

I remember the envelope-art. Some of them were really cool- there were certainly a lot of good Manga style artists around!

The best artist I remember (ok, the only one) who sent in works was Jasvinder Bhui who does to do stellar work for the Mean Machines Mean Yob pages. Lots of super heroes and himself in some.

            You star

I remember the black and white one very well, but the one I remember most isn't on there. It was him with a load of game characters, he did himself in an orange suit kneeling at the front. I believe Strider Hiryu was there too

edit: oops, what a muppet. It was mr mangel

The pic of Oz with his giant mouth open, is very scary, but cool!

Thanks for posting that. Blast from the past. Matt Lyon is/was a very good friend of mine (MM), for such an early age, his Sonic was just incredible. Also I remember my first best mate at school got a SF2 postcard printed in SP, his name was Oliver Bray. Thanks again.

Sounds naff, but that was the great thing about mags of old compared to now, the readers really had a part in it coupled with the fact that the staff had real personalities as opposed to Edge`s third person faceless style.

Do videogame magazines for younger readers exist? I guess there are some available, and they might have reader art etc...

I would like Edge and the like to be more personal, and have a human-touch. It's a very cold magazine, and I would love a similar quality production, but with warmth and personality.

Adults aren't Robots. Something high-brow magazines seem to forget!

That's exactly right - what made MM so special was the reader input - be it drawings, funny letters, photos of someone's crashed car, their pets.

BTW JAPJAC, I'm still waiting on that feature you promised me...

I have no doubt that it will be worth the wait.
