Still got mine. Bought it for a pretty steep ?65 when released. It's a great game, in fact it's just like having the arcade in your home(tm)

i personally think 3d wise the saturn suffered only when it was doing conversions from the psone (lets be fair most games were made for the psone then converted to the saturn as a after thought. With its own games like radiant silver gun panzer dragoon nights etc i think it did a pretty good job

SEGA America and Europe should have gave the Saturn users what it did best and that was the likes of the 2D Fighters and shooters, and stuff like Grandia, Dragon Force II ect .
Somthing which the Saturn did better than the PS
Wouldn't have much diff in sales, but would have made the poor sods that bought a Pal Saturn , that bit more happier

Originally posted by StriderIt may have been pointless, but the fact is that's what the public wanted in both Japan and Europe. Right from the very beginning Sega has misread the market (yes even in Japan). the fact that they had to hastily put together 3D capabilities for their machine is testament to that. Yes the 32X (and to a lesser extent the Mega CD) caused Sega problems, but it was their own misreading of the needs of the majority of most gamers that really put an end to the Saturn's demise.
That true but backing the 32X/Mega CD, Game Gear , Saturn all at the same time was just impossible.
The Saturn would have been able to better with a single marketing campaign behind it. 32X Games like VR, Star Wars, Doom would have helped with the Saturn launch in the West too.
The Saturn never had an chance thought, when even SOA/SOE talked down the machine down and said they don?t expect to sell many due to it?s price.
Which always made me laugh when Sega Europe asked ?170 for a 32X with no game, and ?60 per game (Thanks to the cart format ).
Great way to save people money. For the price of the 32X with a couple of games, you could have a Saturn with a free game, and saved on the games thanks to the CD format

Originally posted by KubrickAgreed, but it was mostly just Sega's own games and games from one or two JP developers that looked the part. "Normal" 3rd parties were always telling us how much of a bitch of a system it was to program for..
I?m remember reading an interview and in that one Saturn programmer said that it was the Tool that were the real bitch, and how you had to sue Assembly to get the best out of it, when everybody was going to C.
Anway don't forget the likes of Lobotomy , Silicon Dream (WLS 98) NMS and Scavnger. Pushed the Saturn just as much the Jp Developers

The X-Men v SF saga was pretty much the last straw that got me into import gaming.
I sent off my Saturn to be multi-region & 60Hz switched in March/April '98 because I knew that even if XvSF DID ever make it out onto UK shelves it would suffer the same squished/bordered/slowed-down fate as every other Japanese 2D fighter.
I ordered that with the 4MB cart for ?65 plus the Salamander collection and never looked back.

I've got the PS1 version of this. Easily the worst arcade conversion of any Capcom game to appear on the Playstation. As someone mentioned, the key element of the game - the tag style thing - is gone. It also somehow manages to have massive loading times. Amazing really when you see what a great job they did for the PS1 Darkstalkers games, and a few others.

I'm pretty sure it was going to come out or at least EB thought so and repeatedly told me so-I was young back then and took what their employees said for gospel
EB used to have videos of it playing very regularly when I went into the stores, there was a lot of interest in it from what I remember, many people were interested due to the over the top nature of the game and the fact that X-Men characters featured
I remember being totally mesmerized by the vids, although it was a while before I wised up to importing and actually got to play it though

X-Men Vs SF was a nice game, but always got boring for me fast. I can play the more tactical fighters like SF3 TS and SF Zero 3 for hours straight but not these Vs games. Nowadays good for a laugh, mostly stompin around with Cammy + Juggernaut if I fire it up. What these fighters lack are a decent amount of playmodes, even the sucky PS versions had them. Kudo's for it being the very first arcade perfect Capcom fighter ever to be released on a console (I guess it is?).
SSM did state that it would never hit the PS.. well it dit but just don't ask in what kind of shape =)
