The MD 6 button D-pad seems to be rougher and more solidly placed which is good. The saturn pad (Type 2) wins it because of the extra shoulder buttons and somewhat better design though.

The worst pad for fighting ganes, especially 2D ones has to be the Dual Shock 2 pad. Diagonals are hard to pull off on it but worst of all......pull off a couple of fireballs and a dragon punch and you'll end up losing 3 layers of skin on your thumb!!

i quite like the dualshock 2 pad for fighters, but the best pad ever is easily the neogeo cd pad

Actually, speaking of d-pads and stuff, has anyone else noticed the ones on Dreamcast pads to differ between regions?

The ones on my two 'PAL' pads seem to be more raised and angular. They are a pain in the ass if you're trying to play beat 'em ups, to be honest. But the d-pad on the pad that came with the JP DC I got recently is smaller and feels softer. I actually don't mind playing 2D fighters with it!

That D-pad destroyed the skin on my thumb. God knows why Sega didn't place a round base below the D-pad and made it much like the nights pad.

Good, they wanted to get rid of 6 face buttons because it would be confusing for the mass market but the D-pad thingie is something they could easily add.

I really disagree with the idea that the mass market could find 6 face buttons confusing to be honest.

Hmm i'm not so sure, Sega did state it someday.. I believe it was featured in SSM. But whenever mainstream gamers play on my saturn they kind of bitch on the fact it has 6 buttons. Most people were used to Sony's PS and those are the ones Sega wanted to capture back..

Oh Sega did say it, I just don't agree with it.

But true that they were wanting to capture an audience who might have been more familiar with the PS or Snes layout.
