    SFC/SNES Import adaptor question

Quick and easy/stupid question coming up..

I've found a "Universal Adaptor" kicking around that I used to play USA/JP games on my old PAL SNES.

Now that I've got a Super Famicom on the way, will I be able to use it to play the couple of US/PAL games I still have?

I don't think you can mate, according to this page anyway:

Should be able to, although older ones dont have the extra edge connector for Super FX games. My adaptor worked with both PAL and NTSC consoles (got PAL first then realised the mistake and got teh SFC)

        Thanks for the replies.
It looks like the only way to find out for sure is to plug it in when the SFC arrives and hope for the best, heh.

Going by that linked page, it's the one marked as "Europe version", but I can't see why it wouldn't work if I use a Japanese cart in the rear adaptor slot (as the country code providing cart)..

At least one bit of info about my adaptor is wrong on that page though.

This allows US and Japanese carts to be played on a European console, without needing to attach a European cart to get around the lockout chip. Hahahaha!
I remember trying that.. If you didn't have a Euro cart in the rear of the adaptor the import game wouldn't load.

I'm pretty sure the most converters work the same on any region console. I've got a "fire" one that runs import games on a PAL console, and PAL games on my US Snes. The US / JAP consoles are identical and run games from either region without the need for a convertor.

The problem lies in running games with extra region protection. I can't get Vampires Kiss or Demon Crest running on my US Snes.

All convertors do is take the region code from the 'native' cart and make the system recognise that instead of the code in the 'import' cart, so these adaptors are generally universal.

The only ones that won't do it are, like previously mentioned, ones that don't have the pins for FX/SA1 chipped games like Starfox or Street Fighter Alpha 2 and the simple 'bridge' adaptors, which were simply an extension of the cart slot so that US games could be played on a Super Famicom.

You should be able to run most US games that way. You may run into a problem with some PAL games as they check whether the console is outputting 50Hz before booting.

Dude if you do have any problems, I have got an adapter available that converts every which way but loose - so PM me if you want it. It does Jap to US, Jap to UK, UK to Jap, blah blah blah you get the idea.

Got the Super Fami now, converter works fine with it. Thanks for all the help.
