top 5 dreamcast shooters

as i'm getting back into collecting for the jap dreamcast i'm interested to know what the best shooters are?

besides ikaruga, mars matrix as i've got these already.

is psyviar 2 any good?

i cant reconmend zero gunner 2 and psyvariar 2 enough!

those two and ikaruga are all i need, but the following are great too......

Hmm, that's a hard one. Well I feel Ikaruga is over rated just like RSG so here are my top 5 in no real order.

Border Down
Psyvariar II (SP?)
Gigawing 1 (I found 2 to be a bit on the dull side)
Trizeal
Zero Gunner 2 (Odd controls at first but you'll soon get in to it)

psvarier 2 i liked though i am selling the dreamcast version because i got the ps2 version

Top 5 DC shooters? For me, and in order of greatness:

- Ikaruga
- Psyvariar 2
- Border Down
- Shikigami no Shiro 2
- Bangaio

Zero Gunner 2 and Gunbird 2 are also excellent. I personally didn't like Mars Matrix, Gigawing 2, Chaos Field, or Trizeal.

Every time you die you drop down a level and the audio/visuals change slightly. Drop down 3 levels and it's game over.

I think it gets easier on each down too but I forget to be honest.

what about the scoring though is there chaining or anything like that?

Psyvariar by a long long way, its buzz system is amazing I just love that game so so much especialyl when it's only coded by one person is well. Border Down is like the best Hori ever well Pro gear and Gradius V are equal to it, but its just thrilling to play especailly with its suicide scoring system Giga Wing 1 is just hard as nails I've never been able to super play it, the last boss is just the daddy of all shmup bosses. Shiki 2 is just a really enjoyable shooter and Zero Gunner 2 looks beautful and the rotating system works really well.

i think i'll go for the dc versions of psyariar 2 as it has vga support

are my top 3. Border Down is reasonably diverting also.

I'd be more a fan of the Takumi stuff (Gigawing, Gigawing 2, Mars Matrix) and also Gunbird 2 - all really manic stuff. Less a fan of Border Down & Ikaruga despite obviously being well put together I find them terribly boring. Likewise Zero Gunner 2. Shiki 2 is good fun, lots of action and the scoring/weapons mix is nice. Psyvariar 2 I really didnt enjoy at all, memory based shmupping + boss milking taken to the max.

Otherwise for outright pure fun Bangaio is pretty great, if repetitive.

Ikaruga nearly wasnt worth the cdr i put it on.

The first Psyvariar game was a 5/10 game too, tho i only have the PS2 complete tbh.

Bangaio is a hella fun and gets quite hard, at least it doesnt try to be a proper shooter like Ikaruga sharades to be.
