What do you love about retro gaming?

For me there are many things i love, in no particular order...
Hunting though piles of second hand games a finding a bargain game i'd been after for ages,
the postman dropping off packages for me to open,
hunting down all the games and bits i ever wanted and finally finding what i wanted,
the first time i hold a new(retro)game in my sweaty paws,
looking at my collection,or just knowing its there!I could go on,but over to you, strangely playing the games comes some way down that list!!!

For me i only really started importing games recently now i have the money i can finally get the games that were released ages ago but perhaps never came to europe such as burning fight asuka/chrono chross.

As far as older games go hind sight is a wonderful thing.I went to this place in norwich called second hand land many years ago. They had a wealth of retro games that now i wish i had bought(they had at least 4 copies of primal rage for the 32x alone)

For me though retro gaming i love the feeling of i picked up a game which is now so sought after

I like retro games because the boxes are nice and I like thr graphics because they are nice and more colourful than games that are new. My most best thing about retro games is that they are just so cool

The cheap prices mostly While not hugely retro, I really enjoy buying n64 and dc games that once retailed at ?40 for under ?3!
The ease of impulse buying nowadays is also fantastic. Last night for example, I ended up winning numerous n64 auctions on ebay, with a bit of last minute bidding, bagging things like a mint boxed 1080 for ?2.
Oh, and I also love opening packages and the anticipation of their arrival.

I really dont need next gen anymore. Ive come to realise for the price of a new release, I can potentially buy 5-10 decent older games.

I just like to savour old classics. Sometimes I get bored of current games- and my favourite retro games are there to put a smile on my face.

A few weeks ago I was bored- so I had a snes session and the atmosphere and gameplay of MarioKart-F-Zero-Contra3 and Axelay is still exciting and gripping.

Retro arcade games in particular are so full of adrenaline gameplay. I could spend a whole day playing old classics- games like Capcoms scrolling fighters are a genre where retro really shines.

At the end of the day there are lots of games worth forgetting- and titles that have been bettered- but there are also a large selection of classics that stand the test of time and deliver as much fun as any modern title!

            Amen brother.

Last week I was feeling restless & couldn't decide what to play, so I trotted over to my SF & spent a few hours with the likes of Smash TV & Area 88.

            Great stuff

I have to agree with Dave Heats up there...When a mint boxed N64 game lands on the doormat it's the feeling that there was a time when you would've paid perhaps ?49.99 new for it, and now it only costs you a few quid.

As well the games being the nuts of course too!

                  1) adding new games, systems and peripherals to my collection
                  2) opening a package from the posty (pat)
                  3) monitoring, bidding and winning in auctions!!!!
                  4) buying old games that you could never afford as a youngster
                  5) hunting for bargains at boot sales, shops and net
                  6) finding out new things about games i.e. value, facts and anecdotes!!!!
                  7) etc etc etc etc!- i think that covers it!

Your favorite old console is not dead as long as you are still able to get new games for it. Even if those games were release years ago!

Retro gaming is ace because you get the benefit of hindsight without being brainwashed by biased magazines etc. You can seperate all the overrated **** & flash-in-the-pan titles from the genuinely great games that still deserve to be bought/played.

A lot of games are released with a reputation for being "great", only to quickly become dated & yesterday's news, but only the truly GREAT ones get to hold on to their excellent reputation. These are the games us retro freaks still love to talk about years later.

I bet FMV games will become the next retro craze. After all there's not many retro things left that people haven't gone mad over!

discovering games I never got to enjoy when I was a kid. Discovering gems I had no idea about.

Playing a game that I could not beat when I was younger but now I am more experienced ;-) have learnt new ways to play.
