The Archimedes & Zarch

Been bugging me for a while. What was the Archimedes game called once it was converted to the Amiga?
And then the people who made it released a similar game with a tank i think? What was that called?
Did anyone here have/has an Archimedes. If so what was the gaming catalogue like,as they were the only games i remember?

I know very little about them but i remember playing a 3d F1 racing game which was impressive at the time, if a little difficult to control.

Zarch was called Virus on the Amiga, and it was created by David Braben. The 3D tank game you're thinking about is called Conquerer I'm sure, and I used to have an Archimedies. The games Catalogue wasn't great, but there were a couple of fantastic games on it.

Notably Terramex, which is actually crap, but really held my attention as an 8-year old! And some other game thats name escapes me, which invovled using your little flying spaceman to try and channel water through levels.

The Arch also got the best version of Elite, in many people's eyes. Lovely smooth control, fancy filled polys, plenty of missions and there were even some funky mods for it.

Where i went to posh school a lot of the kids had Archs like in school , had a few choice games..........good version of Lemmings and various other Amiga games Gods, James Pond, Zool.........I thought Virus was called *Lander* on the Arch, at least the demo was afaik?

Fervour was the most impressive, and into the screen F-Zero esque game where you are a ship shaped like a ball manouvering around gaps in the track.

I can't get the emu's to work, Red Squirrel is meant to be a good emu but ill be damned i cannay work it.

The demo version was called "Lander", and the full version was called "Zarch". If I recall... (haven't touched an Arc in years!)

I know a bit about Archimedes gaming.

Zarch was a David Braben game along with Conqueror which was the Tank game with the patchwork quilt effect. There was also Air Supremacy which was a flight game in the patchwork quilt model, think they were all published by Superior Software.

Elite has the best verion on the Acorn/Arc/Risc OS, the enemies actually had some AI, and a few hunted in packs and the Vipers roams and battled with the pirates in epic style.

We had archimedes computers at our school, and we called Zarch 'Lander' so i guess we only had the demo. The other big games were this awesome Arkanoid style game and Lemmings.

The was this really cool dancing man demo as well that had some 2 unlimited music behind it. Very impressive for the time!

Arkanoid clone was called Fireball 2 and was pretty smart.

Also, anyone who hasn't played Chocks Away, Stunt Racer 2000 and Starfighter 3000 should hang their head in shame. In Shame!

i remember having pacmania and r-type (may have been a clone) for the archimedes on a disc to play at school, was arcade perfect as i remember it!

We did try a PC emulator to play Leisure Suit Larry, but it was super slow and black and white

The Atari ST and Speccy versions were also called Virus. I remember ACE magazine giving Virus a whopping 990 out 1000 in their reivew at the time...

I used to have an Arch, the only two games I had were Populous and Lotus Turbo Challenge II. Everyone used to play Lemmings at school though, and a friend had Sensible Soccer

I've still got an Arch. 3 of them actually. An A3000, an A5000 and a Risc PC. The Risc PC sits on my desk next to my PC - on permanent standby for when I want to play the best version of Elite ever!
