    Metal Gear Solid on PS1

Is there any reason to buy a NTSC version of Metal Gear Solid for PS1 ? as I already have Twin Snakes on Gamecube.

ie is this one ok to play as I need to read the story in english.

Metal Gear Solid Integral (PSOne Books) for PlayStationThis is a special Japanese only verson of Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation that added a First Person mode. The option of English speech and most importantly, the 200 VR missions which would later be released as an add on in the west.

You can pick it up on ebay for peanuts if you're interested. I got it and the special missions disk for ?7 from one seller.

Other than the collector's value, I'm not sure how much different if at all the game is. Don't know if the special VR etc missions are included with GC version

^^ The PSone books release looks like ass due to the no-frills packaging, so collector's value is almost nil.

That INTEGRAL edition of the game though, has a 100% English mode. Plus 300 extra VR missions (probably the same ones as the PAL disc), and also the ability to move around in first-person mode. The NINJA character is playable, and it's compatible with the PocketStation as well.

It's the definitive version of the game IMO, and that's including the GC remake

The US PS1 release usually sells for less than ?5 when copies appear on eBay UK. Get that. The PS1 version is much better than The Twin Snakes imo.

I like playing Metal Gear Solid on the Dreamcast using the Bleem MGS emulation bootdisc. It looks lovely.... but then I was always was a bit mad.

I'm also considering the GC remake, are the graphics simply higher-res versions of the PS1 original or have they spruced it up with new textures and a higher polygon count?

The graphics are all-new, and roughly MGS2 quality, but the scenery/locations etc are exactly the same.
Twin Snakes features some of the gameplay tweaks from MGS2 as well (first-person shooting, hiding in lockers etc), which IMO, makes it way too easy.

Yes, the MGS2 gameplay wasn't integrated well into TTS. They gave Snake more moves.. but they didn't adjust the scenery and AI for them. Besides, they also butchered the opening soundtrack and I believe the voice acting is somewhat below par compared to the old version.

I found the TTS game also mediocre in the visual department.. it looks definitely WORSE than MGS2 on the PS2. And then I forgot about the slowdown TTS comes with and the fact there are no VR missions AT ALL (I believe even MGS1 PSX had a few of them?)..

Altho it looks like crap nowadays, I prefer MGS1 for the PS. I got the old US version but I didn't know Integral was fully English..

Thanks, think I'll give that a miss then. I still have MGS3 to finish

Incidentally, if anyone is interested I am auctioning the 'The Art of Metal Gear Solid' by Yoji Shinkawa. I got it in Japan:

Worth a look, if only for the artwork!

No. Randy (the programmer of Bleemcast!) was a bonafide genius and made it very difficult to copy. I don't think it's been done, yet, but that may be out of respect for a developer who was put out of business by the sheer financial power of Sony's litigation machine (i.e they ran out of money trying to pay lawyers to defend themselves).

You dont really need to copy it! Its not that hard to find or expensive.

INTEGRAL edition - Do it matter which region (Japan or USA) to buy as I want english language text in the game.

INTEGRAL is Japan-only. It has English voices and text. Only the item descriptions etc are in Japanese.
