What racing games, arcade & console, would you say were the great games prior to Gran Turismo? Pole Position and Bump N' Jump are pretty legendary.

I really enjoyed BnJ at the arcade, going through the seasons. When the game starts it's nice and easy, but when you really get into it the palms get sweaty and you feel your racing strip is getting narrower.





BnJ was good on the Atari 2600 too, you got the music, seasons, jumps, water etc. 8)

I know they are alot later but Virtua Racing, Ridge Racer and Daytona were the games that set us on the 3d path we are now, Gran Turismo just made them a more home friendly format.

I really liked alot of driving games in the past but two that spring to mind are Chase HQ and Power Drift.

Well you just knwo Sega have been there with the best racer each leap in technology. Original Monaco GP (Over head one), Out Run, Power Drift, Virtual Racing, Daytona, Scud Racer and F-Zero OX or what ever it was called.

other faves are Chase HQ, Contenental Circut (3D one) and Ridge Racer even though Dayton out shone it

Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road (NES) was one of those games that had interesting graphics IMO.

Namco were the masters of the top down maze game! Loved getting the two chasing cars to crash into each other.
