Warp and Kenji Eno? Where art thou?

    Hello!

Just wondering what ever happened the the Brilliant Kenji Eno and his Warp studios? D2 was awesome as was Enemy Zero and D! His music programming was brilliant, and before the DC launched Sega were in love with them, as was the Japanese crowd!

Is Kenji still in the Games community?

    I think so.

They say he is literally mad though. In a good way. He also worked on a version of D2 for the M2 system, that was apparently VERY different to the DC version. Of course the M2 got canned. Isn't Warp made up of like only 6 or so people? A small team like Treasure I hear.

But you are right, especially regarding D2. One of my favourite games.

It would be interesting to know what he's up to.

The games WARP made were as follows (From memory)

          D - 3DO
          D - Saturn
          D - PSX
Some Puyo Puyo rip off - 3DO
Unknown RPG - 3DO (Never finished)
          Real Sound - Saturn
          Real Sound - Dreamcast
Enemy Zero - Saturn (Originally for PSX before Sony pissed Kenji off )
          D2 - M2 (Never finished)
          D2 - Dreamcast

and that's about it. I saw a documentary with Kenji Endo about 5 years ago on TV over here. Back then though I couldn't understand it. I just wish that I had videoed it

I remember a interview in the offical sega saturn magazine he talked about doing a sound only game (must be that real sound for the psone and saturn)

a few pictures of him reminded me of a japanese john romero.Except he knew how to make a game

I have that magazine. If anyone wants, i could write the whole thing up?

He was a legend, and so few games! I wish he still created games! And i REALLY want to know where he is at (company wise)

Was D2 on the Dreamcast playable in Japanese (If you don't know any, that is)?

This thread inspired me to pick up Enemy Zero and D2 (I already own D).

Did you know, fact fans, that Fumito Ueda used to work at Warp... I'm not sure if he had input into D, but he worked on Enemy Zero as an animator.

Nothing major really (just 15 or 20 secounds)
I have the both versions and its almost laughable why it was cut out in the 1st place . All that a happens is a one of the monsters tentacles goes down the back of Kimberly throat at the start of the game, and that's it. That?s all that was cut out in the US version .

The worst part of the USA version is the lack of lip synching, apart from that it was a top port, with a great job done on the voice acting.
I?ll go for the USA version every time. As D2 as unique and interesting storyline too it, that you're missing out on in the Jp version.

Still no game as come close to D2 in portraying a snowy landscape. The use of graphics and excellent sound effect, make me fell cold when playing this game.
Shame the genius that is Eno is no longer in the games industry. A loss to us all

Yeah I did, he didn't work on D. I'm sure another ex Warp member is all at the SCEI/ICO Team

                              Cheers for clearing it up.

I've got it on the way now. Plan to replay through D and start Enemy Zero on the Saturn before moving on to D2. I remember the M2 screens looked amazing.

The fact that a proportion of the series (like you said) features some of the ICO team behind the scenes means I'm intrigued as to the influence Warp had on them later. Although D2 was well beyond their leaving, the isolated lonely atmosphere from what I've read does seem to strike a cord, and indicate Warp's style left an impression.

I suppose it's a reccuring theme (that of isolation) present across the series.
