    Rastan

I've been playing this quite alot lately and the (I think) third boss is really pissing me off. He's a wizard and he becomes invulnerable or teleports most of the time you approach him. And then he throws a spread of blue fireballs. Is there some good strategy for getting a hit and while still avoiding the fireballs?

Stick 'im... stick 'im with the blade.

Hope that has been of some help old man.

Can't help you- but I loved Rastan, and I will have to give it some proper play again sometime soon!

          I can't help you either,

but the music rocked I am humming it now, and the C-64 port was very very good.

            Bollocks to it all,

I've got not much else to do (on holiday you see), so I'll fire this one up and see if I can get to the bottom of this problem. For the record, the music on the early section of level two, is, "to die for" (as Lady Penelope explained to me at her last Bridge evening.)

If I have any luck I'll let you know, but I do recall Rastan being bloody hard, enough talk though, actions speak louder...

You go into gamestores nowadays and it's all big gurning men with guns. I miss the gurning men with swords/mace/axes.

Vandyke was another favourite of mine. Had similar barbarian style protagonist. Played a bit like MERCs or Outzone, but with swords and maces. Can't get the bloody thing to work in MAME though. Loads up and then gives me "I/O Interrupt?" or something. Won't go any further.

Right then, boss of level three Rastan you say?

After about 20 minutes (and repeat continues) I finally nailed this mofo. For the record, the bosses in Rastan are by no means the game's strongest point; they all seem a bit button-mashy to me.

Anyway, as soon as the battle commences jump to the right (down the stairs) and get in a quick early hit as soon as the tinker appears (this can swing it you know). When the boss starts flashing if he's on the right then jump to the left (you'll get there quicker with this method) and hit him just as he reappears (if he's on the left then leap right and strike, etc), repeat for two minutes and allow to stand before eating, if you know what I mean.

Boss four is much the same, but doesn't transport, so he's a bit easier. Boss five is a Hydra-type beast, if you've got the Fire Sword (Lord, this sounds geeky), then you'll be laughing here.

Started stage six (thunderstorm and all) but died quickly and the game didn't allow me to continue (is this a Shinobi-style no continues on final stage thing) or did I just get too enthusiastic with the start button (with no continues)?

In conclusion, stop playing Rastan, it's not all that great, if you want a sort of similar (but much better) experience then take Rygar out for a spin.

                That is all.

I had the Konami collection on Spectrum, that had some awesome stuff on it, not least of which being Hypersports!

(I also paid the princely sum of ?9.99 for the boxed Spectrum version of Black Tiger after being *very* excited by it in the arcades.)
