edit - still does look great! Nearly 15 years later and my original Super Famicom is still going strong.

I recall the advert they ran in magazines at the time saying this, never met anyone who had a machine that had been modded but it sure looked impressive!

I had a "grey import" Megadrive when it first came out along with Jap Tatsujin, Ghouls and Ghosts and Golden Axe. I later picked up Revenge of Shinobi, the Jap box with the ninja on the front with the scary eyes. I have gone off the Megadrive these days, I am ashamed to say, but back then imagine how goddamn excited I was playing those games (all of which are, admittedly, awesome - with the exception of Golden Axe which is a pile of crap) I later traded all this up for a SNES.

Predictably my SNES first import was Street Fighter II , and then Mystical Ninja - both US versions. My first Japanese game was Parodius.

After my SNES went, I had a gap of many years before my next import - in fact I only began buying NTSC games again last year! I didn't even realise my PS1, which I had had since launch, had been chipped, ffs. To think that all those years - all of those years - I had to play **** awful bordered, slow, load of old bollocks versions of Tekken and suchlike, and passed over the import section in CEX because I didn't know I could go there!

I would now probably only buy import games, unless I cannot understand them or do not have the means to play them. They are usually cheaper (well, usually), and nine-point-nine-nine times out of ten are superior to their PAL brethren. The only console I would still actively seek PAL games for would be the Saturn as I have a good forced 60hz available, oh - and not forgetting the Neo.

Next job is to get modded PS2.

That would be their *Super colour Enhancement" switch.

This had me sold, tho when my parents went to order they couldnt assure it before 2 weeks prior to Xmas day. I were gonna get it with Super Castlevania 4........

So instead I got a Core Grafx II w/ Ballistix & Splatterhouse.

Imagine if i'd got the Super Famicom, my whole life mightve been different.

well, its only been recently that i've started importing, i few years back after the DC died what i saw on the ps2, GC and xbox just wasn't doing it for me so i ended up abandoning gaming for a while, it wasn't until i got a pal saturn from gamestation that i started getting in to gaming again. This was back in the day when gamestation used to have a huge selection of class retro games for reasonable prices, and i ended up buying with it the likes of gaurdian heroes, saturn bomberman, fighters megamix, sonic jam, sega ages, sega rally, worldwide soccer 97, and primal rage (which i actually enjoyed). Of course this brought me back into gaming later i brought a snes and another DC. My first taste of import gaming was when i finally got a neogeo a couple of years back, having to buy games from importers opened my eyes to games from other countries on other consoles that were never released here. Suddenly i noticed how inferior the pal saturn, snes and dc was compared to their jap counterparts, over the past year i've sold all of my pal retro items intent on only going for jap when it comes to retro, a jap saturn came first, with many more hopefully to follow.

Excuse me... *starstruck* I loved your Super Play work. When SP passed on a big hole appeared in my life, especially as it was the September issue which I got on my birthday. Not even pictures and a 'review' of Mario64 and it being my birthday could stop me from being really upset. Even though N64 magazine was there it wasn't the same, but thanks. I did wonder why it wasn't dragged out for another 3 issues just to make the 50 though. And then you ran off to Rare and disappeared from sight. I sold my remaining issues of SP recently and almost couldn't bring myself to package them up coz I made the mistake of reading bits of them. I'm sure there'll never be anything quite like it again.
Ok, finished all that and it's nice to see you're not dead or anything

Anyway, in the coming week I'll be taking delivery of another shiny new Super Famicom model 1. Wonderful And RGB is the only way to go. I can't stand all that shimmery pixel crawl rubbish. Clear pixel art and big fat blocks of colour are where it's at.

some good memories and some bad

                the good
dealing with dream machines 2 nowadays known as VGI. bought alot of megadrive stuff from them the highlights being the splatterhouse series and fighting masters - costing about ?55 - ?60

                the bad
dealing with lee dobinson from loaded consoles - the little prick ripped me off twice and once i got the internet years ago it was funny to find out i wasnt the only one - but he did fulfill some orders which included super sidekicks 2 - neocd and fatal fury 3, both new on release for about ?50

Not quite dead yet but I have got a bit of a sore throat at the mo

SFC is still my console of choice, too. I did try to get them to let SP carry on for a bit longer but the powers that be weren't having any of it.

At least you tried. 47 was an odd number to end on. And yes, time and again the SNES is still providing me with the best game experiences and is a permanent fixture under my TV. A truly wonderful machine.
                    Get well soon.
