Help - I want to play vertical shooters...

    Hi all

I'd like to play my favourite MAME and Saturn shooters as they were meant to be played, in proper full-screen vertical 'TATE' mode.

The latest LCD TVs seem to accept both PC and scart input so can it be that simple?

Does anyone have a set up like this and want to make any recommendations - most of the monitors I've seen have very short stands so clearly aren't designed for vertical orientation.

Any helpful advice is much appreciated - only want to spend around ?250-?300.

Have posted this in retro as it's the most likely place to find likeminded shooter fans but apologies if this should be elsewhere.

    Cheers

    It is that simple.

I have a 24" Dell widescreen monitor. You just rotate the screen (in my case it swivels on its hinge) and tell Mame to run the game in tate mode and thats it. Job done. Throw in a DC stick and its absolutely spot on.

Crikey, vertical shooters on a 24" must look awesome!

Really want a monitor/TV which will accept a jap signal too, for Saturn and PS2 shooting goodness..any other comments?

The thing is alot of monitors/tvs don't allow you to rotate the screen round, at least they never tell you if you can in the blurb. If someone can suggest a HD LCD which rotates on its stand so i can play in tate mode then i think i'll rush out to get one!

I just use an ancient piece of **** 20" TV for all my vertical needs. It has RGB, plays 60hz and can be rotated anytime I want to play something horizontal. Most older TVs have square sides making it easy to flip them over.
