Originally posted by SuperDanXWell id have to disagree with most of those. They have better/more realistic graphics but i dont think there better, but im biased as i dont think the ps2 was a patch on the ps1.
One game that has yet to be bettered (imo) on the ps2 is FF7. Although FFXII may change that....

I've always been tempted to start seriouslly collecting PS1 games, specifically Japanese ones. Simply because there are so many, most of which are undocumented.
Is there even a complete release for non-PAL games?
The fact that there are SO many games available, means there are bound to be several forgotten gems. Actually, the PS1 is a lot like the original Famicom. Revolutionary, and with an obscene quantity of titles released for it.
I picked up the Goemon games for PS1, and they are excellent. As is 'Enemies Within' from the USA. Plus if you look through sites like PlayAsia, they list a lot of out of stock titles that look fascinating. Obscure games like Suzuki Bakuhatsu have only slowly started to get recognisition. Not to mention, few even like the PS1, and so the games tend to be cheap, unless you're buying off another collector.
Oh, and since the machine is easy to chip, it's easy to collect unreleased PS1 betas. I know guys who trade those things like virtual currency.
The fact that it's ignored gives it a kind of underground, and dare I say it, elitist chic. A niche club within an already niche club so to speak.

It's by far my favourite games machine, purely for the breadth and depth of interesting and quality titles it's home to, and that it plays host to the highest number of games I've gotten the most enjoyment out of over the years. But yes, it does have a kind of everyman/dull/mainstream image due to it's success. I certainly would never consider collecting for it, as the dross to quality ratio is enormous. However, having it as a main focus and hunting down the quality titles would be a very satisfying endeavor, I think.

AtariBuff from DP is only missing about 50 titles for a complete PAL PSX collection (something like 1500 games altogether). And he's gathered them all in around a year. Now that's sheer madness!
He's got a site that details a bunch of the more obscure/limited releases here: http://www.mintinthebox.info/Last edited by anagrama; 29-11-2005, 12:02.

Too collect playstation dosent mean you have to buy any crap games or go for a complete collection unless you want to. I certainly have no ambitions in that area! I like to keep my collection down to a resnoble size and just buy the games i fancy, if you choose to dismiss the ps1 you really are missing out, no really you are because whatever your taste in games the ps1s got it covered. You just have to scratch the surface a little and as always look outside of paland. Saying that i have a real soft spot for pal stuff as thats where it started for me. Anybody into 2d games, anime/manga, import gaming should give a try.Imo it can match the saturn in any genre blow for blow and yes that is a challenge if you want it to be.Last edited by SuperDanX; 29-11-2005, 12:11.

Collecting PAL PSone to me isn't worth the effort. plus, looking at that guys site (and having previously owned a few of those box sets) I'd say there were more fun things to collect in the US and Japan also. so I think limiting yourself is NUTS.
BTW, By Tekken 3 collectors disk do you mean the press pack listed on the site above, or that one that came free with some PS1 magazine? If so, i've got a couple of copies floating around
