Maybe the problem with SD3 was one of technical difficulties within the translation process, but I'm pretty sure they also cited major bugs that were acceptable to Japanese gamers but not to Western ones.
Yeh the film jokes in Evermore are crap, mainly because if they'd have been something more relevant i.e. proper movie references they'd have hit the mark better, but for obvious reasons they couldn't have done that. Agree with you on the design, like I said, Enix on an off day
