Secret Of Mana - Worth Playing Now?

I've never gotten around to playing this although I've always meant to, only one in the series I've played is Legend Of Mana. 40 hours or whatever for most RPGs is a fair investment of time so I just want to know if it'll be worth my while (haven't played through one in quite a while) - does it still stand up well today? Also, seeing as I guess I'll be playing it alone, will that dramatically reduce my enjoyment?

Maybe I'd be better off playing Seiken Densetsu 3 (that's intended for single player, right?)

And Secret of Mana doesn't require you to have more than one player, so don't worry about that, I find it a lot more fun to not have the arguments about who does what and where to go. Secret of Mana is about 25 hours long on your first go, I reckon, because it's from a period before Square insisted on bloating every single one of their games with needless ****.

OK, I'll give it a crack then. Sounds about the length of Chrono Trigger judging by your description - to me it's the ideal length for an RPG, I'd much rather play through Chrono Trigger twice than Chrono Cross once (much as I liked it)... It just becomes an endurance test with some RPGs.

I knew it wasn't a requirement to have extra players but I did wonder if it was held in such high regard largely due to people's experiences of playing it with others.

I hate RPGs, but I quite enjoyed Mana on my SNES ... me and my best mate ploughed through it with two players in a few days ... best thing is: no stupid stop-start random encounter bollocks.

Haven't played it? Oh how I envy you. To play it through again, to see the sights, hear the sounds (such diverse music!), meet new creatures and exotic wildelife... then killing them.

Brilliant game, which not only stands up today, but could actually teach modern games a thing or two. Also, the plot is very melancholly. But melancholly in a good way, honest!

Best game ever made. Simple as that!

I am playing it again now, last time I played it was on US release how ever long ago that was?

Classic classic game, brings a tear to my eye. Now go play the thing and if you really enjoy it then try it's SNES sequel which is even better.

After reading some of the recomendations I think I should perhaps like to play Secret Of Mana, how does it compare to Zelda LTTP?

Prefered Mana to Chrono Trigger, felt like you kinda have to wade for the first 30 minutes or so but It's great fun! I also recomennd the 3rd in the series the one after Chrono Trigger, believe it was only released in Japan, but ranslated roms can be found!
Just don't overpay for Secret of Mana, saw it for ?70 in a GameStation!!..Bloody expensive!

I agree with the pair of you, maybe I'm in the wrong thread. Last RPG I could be half-arsed with was Rhapsody: A musical Adventure and even then I gave up after a time.

Life is too short and I'm way too busy sitting in a dark room posting ****e comments, time for an RPG? No way duder!!!

                            Secret of Mana...

                            Oh the memories...

You HAVE to play through it at least once. I think it should be a new gaming law. Every gamer MUST play through SoM as standard.
