    Emulation of Model 1 & 2 games

    Hello,

I really loved the driving dynamics of Virtua Racing, even more so than the later Model2 Daytona. I'd love to play the game again, but the wife isn't up for us having a CAB in the dining room...

I was just wondering if there has been any progress on emulating Sega model 1/2 boards?

I notice that I get 2 FPS on MAME....

Sega Model 1 emulation in MAME took a huge boost - Virtua Fighter for example is 100% playable at full speed and sound, on my 2.8ghz Pentium 4.

However I think it's currently the only playable Model 1 game - Virtua Racing sounds brilliant but is rendered totally unplayable due to incomplete emulation.

for Sega Model 2 stuff, the two dedicated Nebula emulators do quite a good job of emulating it - Graphically it's very buggy, definately not full speed, despite coming very close, and sound gets choppy, but i've had many a fun game of Top Skater.

        What is she thinking?!

Just to add to what Silvergun X said, there are indeed 2 different versions of the Nebula M2 emulator, one of which being newer and using DX9, and has fixed the gliitching problem when using ATi cards, and generally runs much faster and smoother.
It's less complete than the older version though, which has stuff like emulation of the music in STCC, for example. Which is why they provide both. You want both and use whichever is best. STCC is no fun without the music, IMO.

Older Model2a games are still unemulated as they use a processor with very little documentation. Unfortunately that's the likes of Sega Rally, Daytona, Virtua Fighter 2 etc. You can listen to the music in the service menu though

            You're welcome!

Here's another catch - There's currently a version of MAME floating around called EK-MAME, which works with Kaillera.

It's also the very version that Model 1 got a boost in.

            Virtua Fighter online, anyone?
