The music in SOR3 is very much a product of the time - in the mid-90's there was a techno explosion and I think Yuzo Koshiro was simply experimenting with that style of music. The trouble is, the poor old MD's sound chip wasn't up to the task and therefore everything ended up sounding pretty bad.

I didn't mind the music that much, but then I think the first game has the best tunes of the series. The music in SOR2 is good but it gets really annoying on some of the levels, whereas the music in the first title just seems to 'fit' perfectly and doesn't grate on you at all. Plus this intro music is amazing - it knocked me off my seat when I heard it for the first time.

Gameplay-wise, SOR3 is a real progression from the second game and I don't think there's much between them - both are excellent and well worth owning.

SOR 3's combat system is the best of the 3 games. The soundtrack IMHO is best on SOR1, but the quality of the visuals and level design is best in SOR2. So they all have there plus points, if you can only playone game then play SOR2. But i still prefer the first game the most. Although the characters were somewhat weedy looking in comparison, it was a sleeper hit that no one saw coming.

We were all still in love with Final fight that when sega ripped off cody with axel, we were like WOW! especially how final fight on the snes lacked a 2 player mode and only had 2 characters.

All in all, all three games are good, so no point comparing, when they can be had on sonic gems lol!

I prefer the original SOR to FF - although the sprites were smaller, everything moved at a quicker pace and the game system offered more options. Being able to leap over your enemy and slam them into the ground was awesome at the time. As 112 says, the introduction of a two-player mode just added insult to injury as far as SNES-owning FF fans were concerned. And the police 'assistance' special attack was WAY cool.

Although to this day I never understood how the police could fire a massive cannon that only killed the bad guys and not the player's character...

lol @ duddyroar, that is a taboo subject when you talk about video game comparrisons to real life situations, if you think about it, when was it possible for a peron wearing jeans as tight as axel or cody to do them moves? talk about toight..............

I personally dont think SOR will work in 3D as every beat em up game in 3D still pales considerably in comparisson to a 2D counterpart. The only way really is a DMC type of approach.

Going back on topic, SOR3 is highly missed from a lot of peeps collections because it was released at such a late time in the MD life, that everyone had moved onto the PSX by then. Not me of course, i was straight to the saturn, and only ever discovered sony in the past 4 years lol!

I only bought a PSONE after my mate lost my PC version of FF7 and I wanted to play it again (years later) on the cheap. Just got a PS2 the other week and only have REZ so far.

On The SoR3 front. My favourite character is Blaze (the woman) but I have noticed how she is just a rip-off of Chun-Li from street fighter (standing throw when facing opponent and one of her special attack) .
