Oh. My. God. You are so right. You shouldn't have said this. I guess I have to get a US PSTwo now. I guess I'll just not get the Jap version which I was thinking of getting.. NO! More. Money. To. Spend.

I don't really have much to contribute to this thread other than to come in here to glare at Final Fantasy in general.

          *glares*

          OK, I'm done, thanks

I have tried to play this twice now, in the past, but can never make it past the 2 - 3 hours part. Why? well i never played it when it first came out and only played it after playing FFX. I think i have been spoilt cos when i play FF7 it jus feels so slow............ and theres no speech! i have to read for ever!

Im contemplating playing this again soon, when im done with FF X-2. But is it really worth it? Is the story so much better than FFX? Is it still worth playing all this time? cos the thought of spending another XXXX hours playing an RPG has to be justified. And im not too sure........ will playing it on a ps2 make the game run any quicker? The issue i have with the speed is, for me to make it down a coriddor litterd with clutter so as to make me weave in and out of obstruction (with dodgy controls) means i have to fight like XX amount of enemies, because of the random battles.

the question really is, should i play this so called gem (its meant to be the best of the lot) or play somat more current like dragon quest.

The worst bit IIRC was that the cut-scenes weren't skippable. There were places where you had a save point, then a lengthy cut-scene, then a boss fight. If you died, you had to sit through the entire thing again. Even worse, you couldn't just leave it alone to play out as each time a character spoke you had to press a button to clear the text!

I agree, that was truly criminal - I mean it would of been so easy to implement, one line of code I recon that said when 'X' or whatever is pressed skip the scene. This really annoyed me, because it was always just before a really hard boss where you would nearly always die - I found myself flipping to a TV channel while tapping 'O' on the pad repeatedly then flipping back after a long while.

I'd say play Dragon Quest VIII - as it's in my opinion the best RPG released for a very long time (well Summer 2000 in Japan which saw Dragon Quest VII, Skies of Arcadia and Final Fantasy IX all released within weeks of each other). However I never got on with Final Fantasy VII and nowadays I find the graphics and the pacing of the game too offputing to replay it.

I guess it all comes down to personal preferences but I'm sure the FFVII-loving majority speaks for itself!

Just a note to say that FFXII really is living up to my expectations, and addresses pretty much every single issue I have with traditional RPGs

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive. I hope it doesn't take too long. It might go through customs which means that it'll take even longer, probably +1/2 days. Ugh. It's been so long since a new Final Fantasy. I never played XI.

Considering FFXI, I think it was a mistake to give it a numeral number. It should've just been titled online and the new XII given the XI. Title. Sure, S-E calls the shots but whomever you ask XI isn't a traditional FF deserving of the number.
