Battle Squadron was one of the first shooters I bought on the MD. Always remember a mate coming round after school .. we spent ages playing this two player & fighting over who'd get the power-ups. Great game.

I loved the music to this game. A couple of remixes of the music that I found on Youtube some months ago.

I recall playing it on the Amiga with a Philips monitor, and yes you could run full-screen 60hz. Even better you could control your ship with the mouse. Clocked it many times, but couldnt get anywhere close on the MD version due to pad/less screen realestate issues.

It was all down to screen resolution ^
The Megadrive and NTSC screen resolution would be 320x200 pixels, but the PAL Amiga version used 320x240 pixels, thus you have a 5th extra screen at the top which gave you more time to see the baddies arriving.

I didn't like the MD version of Battle Squadron, the RE-programers of the MD version tried to be TOO clever and the use of parallax/layered scrolling (especially on the later levels) results in hidden enemies and bullets. The music, by non other than Robb Hubbard, is tinny and although expressing an extra few sound channels didn't put them to much use here. Robb later stated in an interview that he was contractually obliged to convert the tunes and fx lock, sock etc. but was unhappy with the results.

Well afaik both Battle Squadron and Hybris for the Amiga were developed on PAL machines and therefor the PAL version is the one to get. 50Hz should run the game at original speed. Don't know about the MD-Version, though.
