Every snes owner who likes platformers, needs to own Plok. It's one of the most magical games ever made. The visuals, sound, and design are pretty awe-inspiring. The more you play, the more it gives!

        Buy it now!

          Yep.. Tiny Toons Rocks!!!

I didn't expect much from the game, but it turned-out to be one of my faves. It's a really funny game, full of action, and looks excellent too!

          Another must have!

I can understand why some people wouldn't like it much. It's quite a dark, grim game, and the first section doesn't bode well.

I love the game though. It has a deep ambience, that is both haunting and uplifting. The levels vary quite a bit, and all are memorable. There is a lot of detail, thought, and imagination put into the design, and the control mechanics of the game are equally well thought out and a joy to play!

Obviously it's not to everyones taste. I guess Dracula X ( PC ENGINE ) and it's brighter style, would appeal to those that dislike CV4.

              Super Castlevania IV
              Yoshi's Island
Umihara Kawase (perhaps overrated these days purely because it used to be fairly unknown, but it's still a winner.)
              SMW
              Plok!

I'll post more as they come to me. I'm always a bit **** initially. Sorry to pimp my old, pretentious and not-really-that-good CV4 thread again, but some of you chaps seem to share my enthusiasm, so I thought you might like to post there or something.

No one has mentioned Donkey Kong Country, surely that's got a place in the Greatest SNES Platformers chart? I rate it anyway

Edit - ah, just read the first post properly, other than Donkey Kong .. well it's still a great game

I suppose Super Star Wars could count as a platformer.

I admit to not giving DKC much attention back in the day. I had just got a 3D0 ( Road Rash, Need For Speed etc.. ), and was looking forward to the Saturn and PS1, so I was more occupied with them at the time of the games release.

I did like it though, but it never had a major affect on me like earlier snes titles. Despite this, I really rate the game!

                  Still looks fantastic!

I always though DKC was boring and poor nice graphics shame about the game.
The SNES didn't have has many good platfrom games as the MD, but it made up for that with 2 of the best ever made

                    1) Mario IV - Sheer Perfecton the most perfect game ever made still to this day

2). Almost as good as Mario IV and my 2nd fav Platfrom game after Mario IV and what a soundtrack (also loved the Axelay like Backround)

3). Yoshi Island - I remember getting this not long after a spent a bomb onthe Saturn and wondering why I bother , and wishing SEGA could make games this good inthe home.

4). Prince Of Persia - NCS were gods and this what just somthing else

                    And thats about it really

I know i am probably alone in this assessment but when it first came out i really dug bram stokers dracula (film too). Harker wasnt the most agile or versatile of characters but i thought the atmosphere and music was good.

It's a shame the GBA version looked no where near as nice, was far to pixelated and unplayable, number 2 looked just as bad.

Nightstalker you mentioning Super Ghouls and Ghosts gave me the urge to go back and play it as well. All i can say is OMFG this game is so god damn difficult, its brilliant but at the same time soul destroying. Im intrested to know how far into this game everyone else has gotten and if anyone has finished it cause i sure as hell havent.

Time Trax was pretty slick, with some neat graphics and crisp-feeling gameplay. Far better than the average movie/TV tie-in.

Proudest achievement. I clocked it on the snes when i was about 13. My utter disgust of course when after finishing it the first time and finding out i had to do it all over again. Good thing you could start the first level with full gold armour.

I never found it that hard to be honest but then again MDK2 i found infuriatingly difficult and others don't. Its all individual.

You think the snes version is hard? Boot up the arcade rom. Then you'll know whats hard!

Probably Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island, Contra Spirits (Lets Attack Aggressively!) and the rock-hard Super Ghouls n Ghosts

oh, and I've got a thing for the original Actraiser if only for the music which amazed me at the time.
