I finally got this yesterday. The DVD that comes with it has a playthrough video on which is quite funny. By the end of the third level, the person playing the game is nearly dead, then it just cuts off at the start of the fourth level. It's quite impressive that he got that far without dying, really, but it goes to show how unfairly difficult the game is.

Yeah, the Castlevania Dungeon commented on that too! The chap playing it did well, but really he should have been able to finish the game without dying if he was an expert.

Haunted castle is nearly impossible, i originally played this when i would persevere with most games, as mentioned in this thread, the game is so unfairly difficult to the point where you can't work out in your mind what you would have to do pass a particular section.

Haunted Castle and Vampire Killer (msx) are the only two unique castlevania games i never finished to date, Haunted castle because it is just far too unfair, this maybe sound like someone crying! about it, but if you haven't played it you will soon find out, and Vampire killer because it seemed too much hassle getting a msx in the Uk (that is supposed to be difficult too)

I wouldn't say avoid like the plague, but this game will offer your frustration in abudance.

Got mine yesterday, and it really is a bit of a swine. Watching the superplay DVD has shown me how some bits are done so might give it another crack to see if I can get further than I did first try (2nd boss)...

I like the package though, for ?15 I can't really grumble!

Aye, it's worth it for the soundtrack CD.

The game does have this weird "I want to beat it because it's Castlevania" quality to it, though. It's compelling just enough to encourage you to stick with it for a while.

Or maybe that's just me being an obsessive ****... :P

I've actually played it more than I thought I would. Once you turn down the difficulty settings it's not bad.
