I think the game worked because its one of the few racing games that accurately puts across a feeling of weight behind the movement (Like the first NFS) even though its another one of the upgraded PSone ports its a very good one.

Also 4 Wheel Thunder and Hydro Thunder nice pick up and play games. I think anyway.
Anyone like F355 or fighting vipers
I would also add Jet Set Radio to the very good list.

The footballing aspect of it is fine - albeit rock hard, but the main problem is the stupidity of your players - if they are off the ball then even when they are allegedly under your control (with the 1P marker) they will deviate between running back to their place in the formation and running the way you want them to. The same applies for keepers, mine came out, made a save and ran back to the center of the goal instead of staying out for the rebound!
If you had control of your players then I reckon the game would open up a hell of a lot, but as it is the opposition just end up waltzing through while your team run back and forth not knowing what to do.
Shame really. I don't remember the original VS in the arcade having those issues.

It's not an upgraded PS1 port though, well, according to developer interviews anyway, it apparantly started life as a PS2 title then got moved onto Dreamcast when they managed to get better results in a quicker time frame from the DC architechture. The PS1 version was developed simultaneously. I have to say Vanishing Point is one of the best looking 3rd party games on the system imo. But 60fps and nice lighting effects can make a game look far better than the sum of its parts. Great texturing though.

I noticed Soul Reaver isn't on the list, I really enjoyed that and it's better than the PS version. After bigging-up Shadowman in this thread already I think my 3rd-person adventure fetish is beginning to show
Any opinions on Outrigger? I'm fairly ambivalent about it even with the keyboard and mouse so I'd say probably a binner.

Sega Rally 2 good but not perfect, Daytona 2001 isn't that great and MSR is good but not great.Last edited by S3M; 09-07-2006, 20:25.

I think Daytona 2001 is fantastic personally, so long as you take it for what it is. Just a shame theres no online anymore anywhere
Soul Reaver actually had improved texturing, rendering and a nice silky frame rate on the DC, but the frame rate alone being better was lovely. I wish all the PS1 ports ran at 60fps *me glares at games such as Tony Hawks and Tomb Raider and pretty much 99% of the other PS1-DC ports*
