The very early versions of the Japanese Super Shinobi (Revenge of Shinobi) has the real batman, real Godzilla and real Spiderman. batman was the first to go by being replaced by a hobo looking effort then Godzilla was replaced by a skeleton. Only Spiderman remained in the western version and the 3 version of the Japanese release.

Oh, hang on. Rambo is also in the first Japanese version. can't remember if they changed the sprite for the western version.

Is there any way to tell the early releases apart from the later releases?
Box variations? Cart Variations? etc etc....?

I disagree. But in fairness, by the time Shinobi III came out I was moving on to greater things (booze, girls and the like).

You probably agree with me that Super is better (i prefer it) but overall people prob think that Shinobi III is the better game?

Its like buying a classic motor or some brand new car, you know which will run better, but whats more badass and youd rather have.

Nope or not taht I know. All have the same cat number. maybe the instructions are different inside but I doubt a shop will let you open all the games to check.

No, you have to test the game to find out.

Here's an interesting quirk on the UK version of Revenge at least:

If you pull the cartridge out of the Mega Drive (while it is still on! -not recommended) when the title sequence is starting up, and then re-insert it and press reset, you'll get Super Shinobi as the title and not Revenge of Shinobi.

I remember reading this in a magazine and doing it hoping that Batman would come as well. He didn't
