More a case of a game I wish was back then... If only this port was available back in the day, then my eleven year old self would never had had to look upon the Nintendo NES PoS unit in department stores with such envy (you remember the ones which let you select one of a dozen or so games but only play 30 seconds of it?):

Burning Rangers 2 - the concept was great

Super Mario Galaxy 3 - Still want the peak era back

Metal Gear Solid 5 - So sad we never got one... no. No we didn't get one.

        MGS 5's a great shout.

I wish we had gotten the full thing. We only got about 50% of it. The maps are largely empty and the storyline is completely curtailed and makes no sense. The whole third act is missing.

It's gutting when you watch the footage included with the LE of the game, which shows development footage and concept art of the rest of what was planned.

I would have never been happy with MGS5, there are things about it that are well done but even if it had been complete it reeks of Kojima's disinterest in the franchise at that point

The fact that Nintendo effectively scrapped any chance of it happening when New Super Mario Bros. Wii (30m copies) outsold Super Mario Galaxy (12m copies) & Super Mario Galaxy 2 (6m) combined STILL annoys me.

Tbh, I too would be disinterested in the franchise I revived and made relevant again if I had absolute Computer User Non-Technical Servers like Konami for bosses.

Yeah and this kind of led into Mario 3D World, which was okay, but clearly an attempt to create a Mario which merged the appeal of the 2D games with 3D gameplay. And it was good but it didn't really push the envelope in any way like 64, Galaxy and Odyssey did.

I remember being completely underwhelmed by SM3DW when it was announced - it was just Super Mario 3D Land HD as far as I was concerned. Then I played it and the quality obviously came through. Not true 3D Mario quality as you rightly say, but clearly quality. I reckon it would've made a kick-ass Mario coin-op had Nintendo still been inclined to make arcade games.

That said, watching Eurogamer readers have a meltdown in the comments when they awarded it their GOTY in 2013 will always be hilarious to me!

lol, I didn’t see that. Yeah it was a good game, I enjoyed it a lot (I bought the machine to play it). But it was fundamentally kind of a concerning point where it felt uncertain we might see something as exciting as Galaxy again. Then Odyssey came and was brilliant, thankfully.

Honestly the most exciting part of Switch 2 for me is that we’ll finally get a little closer to finding out what the next Mario is. I’m kind of out of gaming right now but I’ll probably buy a machine just to play that.

I'm not gaming too much either - only just recently 100%-ed SMBW and short bursts of Balatro. That's been it.

I purchased my Switch just to play Odyssey so I'm definitely in the same boat as you on that score with Switch 2.

Yep, me too! I pretty much buy Nintendo machines firstly and primarily to play the mainline Mario!

Beyond good and evil 2, but released years ago soon after the original.
