PAL or Japanese Mega Drive collecting?

Right, I'm wanting to start a SEGA collection again, since I sold off mine years ago.

I'm not after buying every game under teh sun, just the good ones I'll play and enjoy.

I'd quite like to try buying Japanese only, nicer box art and manuals for starters. Spines for PAL software are fugly on a shelf. Also the 60Hz'ness is splendid.

There's just one thing really bothering me, availibility and cost.
eBay has some games, but not everything I would want. VideoGameImports.com has a good selection, but cost puts me off, can anyone reccomend eBay sellers or online shops for JPN MD software and hardware?

VGI are also doing a brand new JPN MD for ?90... Tempting, but it's a bit much really init.

Finally, what JPN only games are worth looking out for?

Japanese MD prices are now sky high in Japan so I wouldn't get your hopes too high for a really cheap source

If I had a choice I would go with Jap (Sold my collection not long ago a regret it but had to be done).

I have bought a lot and its always been quality service.

There are going to be elusive titles but as far as availability goes you can get most games for a decent price!! There are always going to be titles that are expensive but it does depend on what genre you like.

I would say tht ?90 is too expensive for a MD1 you can pick up a boxed mint one on EBay for about ?30 a MD2 for even cheaper. The 60HZ option is far better than black boarders go full screen everytime!!!!!

As for JPN only again down to taste but for starters I would say Gleylancer (Great Shooter), Pulseman (Platformer), Yu Yu Hakusho (The Treasure game not Gaiden). There are also a few other shooters worth picking up.

Maybe have a look at genkivideogames.com, they have pages of Japanese MD games listed. I don't know price wise how they will compare to the other sources though. They will provide more information about an items condition if you drop them an email, i.e. confirm if a manual is present if it isn't made clear in the listing.

I honestly can't see why limiting your self to JPN only, sure the box-art on most EU and US (especially US) games are extremely awful, but I think it'll take a while before having all your favorite MD games if going JPN all through out. Why not just look at the EU and US box-art as kitsch?

Aye well, I probally will end up with some PAL bits if it's too hard tracking down a JPN version, I just like stuff being consistant, init. :P

Obviously I'm biased and would say PAL collecting...especially if you're consistent. My pride and joy is my BLUE BOX PAL MD collection.

I don't really intend to explore further into getting jap titles.

I buy MD games once in awhile now. As i usually was buying up to 5-10 games off ebay every fortnite for the collection. My most recent buys are sword of sodan,toughman contest and bonkers.

Id go for stuff you would be able to pick up easy, pal stuff.

BLUE BOX PAL - They look verry nice. Bonkers mint is vary nice

JP all the way. Yahoo auctions is your friend. Usually 1000 or so auctions up, often a few nice bundles.

(That VGI md looks asian ntsc to me..60hz etc but not a true jp only model)

Wasnt a blue box version though, you can thank wheelaa too as i got it from him. Anyway to add my two peneth id say go jap. I started with pal and regreted it in the end. If its easy to collect for, wheres the fun in that?
