I've always believed it's because the Wonderswan was cheap, both to make and to buy - so doing loads of different editions made sense.

A lot of these colour variations do look a bit too close to each other to be honest. It's tough to tell some apart from eachother.

Yep, Bandai were weird in that way. Maybe the ones that were most similar were the ones that sold most meaning they tried to replicate the sales each time but usually the appeal lies in the rarity so it could just be they were fairly slapshot in choosing too
